I notice they have started converting the Fisk Building into a new hotel.
The people who support this have obviously never been down to Polk St after dark.
Nothing left around Polk but offices and a furniture store and some small restaurants and bars.
And the block that the Fisk Building is on...is the bar block.
Nothing is open downtown at night...except the bars on Friday and Saturday nights.
When the bars are closed or you get off Polk Street...
Then downtown Amarillo is a dark and scary and dangerous place to be.
Transients wandering around after dark.
And very common on Friday and Saturday nights...
For 3 or 4 police cars to be parked in the middle of Polk with lights flashing.
And that is right across the street and on the next end of the block from the new hotel.
