I was curious if anyone knows a bit about publishing books in the area. Mainly, I want to know if there are any print-on-demand local publishers. I would rather deal with a local company if possible. I have the book written and will set it up as a pdf file for printing soon.
I have not looked very hard for a traditional publisher, mainly because commercial success is not my main interest. That would be great, but it would not disturb my dream if it was a failure. I just do not want to be stuck with a closet full of books I can not sell. I would rather buy them at a smaller clip, maybe 100 at a time. (Lot's of friends want copies).
My own marketing strategy should take care of a few hundred books.
Also, should I wait the 4 to 6 weeks for the copyright or just hope the poor man's copyright is okay at first?

There are several books on self publication. They could probably answer all you questions and tell you the pitfalls to avoid. And by the way Congratulations!

I know nothing about where you can get your book published but was curious, if you don't mind my asking, what your book is about?

Thanks everyone. I have been registered at lulu for awhile. That is where I have learned alot about self-publishing.
The book is about a soul named Joe. He dies and goes to Heaven and finds out he has choices in Heaven too. One of the choices is to live another life on Earth. He does this several times, among some other choices, in hopes that he can do better each time and get closer to God before finally going into Heaven. His arrogance gets the best of him though and he gambles one time too many.

His arrogance gets the best of him though and he gambles one time too many. I've had some ideas for writing on such a subject too, only when the person/soul comes back to earth the person who gets the soul doesn't know or realize he/she has that soul, but dreams keep popping up that has nothing to do with that person's life but the previous lives of the spirit they possess, then as the person passes the consciousness returns and just adds that experience to the lives lived. I don't want to call it reincarnation though, just choices we make as spiritual beings to come back to earth and make a difference. You have a very good premise for your book, and I'm sure I, as well as many here, would just love to buy a copy when you do have it in book form. Perhaps do a Readers' Digest condensed version?

Our views are pretty similar in many ways gitpikker58. I am reluctant to use the term reincarnation as well, simply because I believe when a soul comes back it is not just to pick up where it left off last time. I will see if I can write a good Reader's Digest version of the story, though the main story is rather short already. The second half of the book is about smaller aspects of my current life that helped lead me to my story idea. I did find a local POD company that offers decent deals so I will likely go with them.

I probably need to work at writing a better short description of my story but here is a short version.
This is a story about Joe. Joe just wants to be the best soul he can but he just can't seem to reach the level he wants. We catch up to Joe as he is enjoying an outing with the love of his life and their kids on a picnic. Things go terribly wrong and his life ends trying to save his child. He goes to Heaven and is confused by the way Heaven works. He learns what souls are judged on and he learns that souls have options right at Heaven's door. One option is another go at it back on Earth. He takes that option because he figures he can improve his score and be closer to God when he gets back to Heaven.
His next life is short and brutal. He is there long enough to see the brutality of his abusive, alcoholic father and to feel the loss of a mother he never got to even touch. A lot can be learned in a few short days on Earth. Joe returns to Heaven to find he was taken directly into Heaven where he is reunited with his Mom and his past. This time he doesn't have a choice in being sent back for another life.
This life Joe is hampered by physical problems that seem to destoy his faith in God and even in his fellow men. Joe is just trying to be a better man while the world is trying to tear him down. He ends up dying in a nursing home, discarded, forgotten, and broken down. The world can be cruel when it no longer has a use for you. Back in Heaven Joe feels he was cheated in the last life and is tired of trying. He just wants to wander Earth as a ghost to see what happens to those he left behind. Maybe just to see what karma has in store for those left behind. He wanders around and learns that his view of those people may not have been quite right and that he is just wasting time seeking something that wasn't really to be found. He witnesses a miracle as a ghost and confuses himself into thinking he wants to be the hero instead. So, he takes another ride to try and become the hero.
Sometimes there is a fine line between good and evil as Joe finds out in this short life. He thinks killing a few people to save the lives of the ones he thinks he came back to save was the right thing to do. He finds out how wrong he was when he finds himself entering Hell. Even Hell is not what he had envisioned. He finds Hell to be more about learning than punishment, though punishment is a big part of it. Through it all Joe finally learns something about forgiveness and compassion and he now understands more about life.
The second part of the book is about things in my life that helped shape my idea and other things about humans I have written.

I did finally get the project published through lulu. I am now just waiting on the first copy to make sure it printed correctly. It will then be available to buy or download a free copy. That will take two weeks if things go correctly. Looking back, I think I made the process too hard by trying to learn to do everything. Sometimes it makes more sense to pay someone else to format the book. Plus the cost of buying computer programs I didn't need. Computer problems are why the release has been delayed.
