I was on a plane from Amarillo to Dallas this past Friday evening. One of the passengers was a young lady who was on her way to compete in the American Idol qualifications. Does anyone know who she was or has anyone heard about how she did?

Nope the new season does not air until fall. The new season may not begin AIRING until the fall, but preliminary competition is already taking place. It was held this weekend in Dallas and further eliminations will be in Omaha, Atlanta, Charleston, Miami and Philadelphia. Gee, I don't even like American Idol and still knew that much. I was just curious about the young lady on the plane.

They had 20 try out at the Big Texan. I think they are down to 7 or 4 and they will compete again I think this week. It is to reserve a place to sing in front of Randy Paula and Simmon.

According to the Amarillo Globe News, the competition at the Big Texan has nothing to do with American Idol. Rather, it is a contest to select three finalists to compete in concert at the Tri-State Fair. The audience there will pick a winner. And there may be people named Randy, Paula and "Simmon" in the audience. You never know. Anyway, back to my question about the young lady who auditioned for American Idol...

Apparently she aint crowned winner yet so we do not know about her! Or would we know that before the show airs?

I was just curious if she went on to the next level of eliminations. Now I'm sorry I asked. Sometimes a simple question can get awfully confusing awfully fast.

LOL! I put about as much stock in what people say on planes as I do with what they say in bars or on the internet.

You say you're sorry you asked. You kind of got chity with tink. Your answer was very smartazz. I think it's funny that you believed the girl on the plane. They had 20 try out at the Big Texan. Apparently a competitior doesn't have to win any kind of local competition to go to the initial American Idol auditions. The advantage of winning the local contest would be that your airfare and hotel are paid for. And the local Amarillo competition will send someone to Miami, not Dallas, according to the link you gave me. And bag from canyon, why would I have NOT believed the girl on the plane? I had no reason not to believe her. Are you so cynical that you can't take what someone tells you at face value? I'm sorry for you if that's the case.
