Oh her name is Amy? I thought it was Katharine Hepburn!

From the kamr website: Amy Gardner A newspaper once described Amy Gardner as "having impressive scrapbook material," and this sure isn't her "first rodeo!" Having been a Meteorologist in some of the most active severe weather markets in the country, (Oklahoma City, Dallas/Ft. Worth, and Birmingham, Alabama,) Amy is thrilled to be here in Amarillo. Amy says there's so much to be proud of in the Panhandle region; it's a great community with Texas-size hospitality, thriving businesses, successful farming, ranching and rodeo, and the Western lifestyle, which all truly make it the Yellow Rose of Texas. Amy worked hard to earn both the AMS and NWA seals of approval, as well as being on a Dallas/Ft. Worth weather team that earned two EMMY awards for storm coverage. She was also an on-air forecaster at CNN-Atlanta, Georgia. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Communications from Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire, Amy went back to school for Broadcast Meteorology at Mississippi State University. It was also important to her to get her ham radio license and become American Red Cross-certified as a disaster volunteer. Passionate about storm chasing, Amy strives to increase severe weather awareness. In her spare time, this single girl likes to 2-step, and is also a freelance writer for two rodeo magazines. www.americanbuckingbull.com

I dunno I just can not really watch her at all much. I miss Bill and liked him a lot. He was no more goofy than the crew at Channel 10 was. I guess I really like 7's coverage on weather the best.

Bill rocked. She does not. One has to wonder if Amy would have gotten a better reception if she looked like this...

it seems as if meterologist school just graduated and we got a bunch of young 'uns lately. They don't have (or little) experience in front of the camera and don't seem to know what they are talking about.

I don't know about your meteorologists, but the one in Lubbock said Amarillo would have a high of 50 today. Imagine my surprise when I got to town, froze and had to drive on the ice.

I heard 39 and 41 as predictions for the Thursday Amarillo high temperature...but I don't think we made it past freezing. By watching the AccuWeather.com banner at the bottom of the homepage...I notice they cheat on the predicted low and high...if it goes past what they thought. Earlier tonight...the banner said our predicted low was 24...and I notice it's now 19...and so they adjusted their "prediction" down to 19.

I can forgive the young ones. They're getting their feet wet in our smaller market and, hopefully, they will improve and move on to better things.
Someone of Ms. Gardner's alleged "stature" should be much more seasoned at this point in their career and be savvy enough to know the audience they are trying to reach.
It's sad - as is most of the media in town. Since Bill left, I really don't care to watch anyone's local weather so I rely on The Weather Channel. Channel 10 is the most professional media outlet we have (not including local radio in this rant) but even they could use a little tweaking.
The only thing that saddens me more than the downfall of KAMR is the awful Globe-News. Tell me fellow posters, does Amarillo not deserve better? I don't now how we would go about it, but we must find a way to demand better. Don't shop with their advertisers or something.
What say you all?

I agree, Hoparillo. That's why I support the Amarillo Independent. While it will be like any other business and make its share of mistakes along the way, I think that if we care about news and journalism, we would support another endeavor, such as the Independent. The only way things get better is to demand better and support what is better. Competition is good for all of us.
The Globe-News has no incentive to be good to its readers ... only its advertisers.

Cats - the AGN isn't even good to their advertisers ... the stories I could tell!

I just happened to think that someone needs to add here...
that like a year or so ago...when a tornado went through Childress...
Bill was the only Amarillo meteorologist to report that on the air...just after it happened.
The other 2 Amarillo stations (KFDA and KVII) tried to blow it off...and just barely mentioned it the next day.
That was shameful for the other 2 Amarillo stations...because when a large tornado plows through a town in your local TV coverage area...and severely damages their high school...it's BIG news.
Bill knew it happened right after...but I can't begin to imagine how the other 2 Amarillo stations missed it completely in their newscasts...the day of the tornado.

Nick Bender (KVII) is leaving. His last day was today. I had just gotten used to him.

OMG! I hope this isn't starting a trend...where Karen starts liking someone...and they suddenly decide to leave... Surely Karen isn't running people out of town... But just in case...could you please start liking Amy and Faith on KAMR? Pretty please? Because those are 2 that really need to move on...

I loved Bill! Granted it took me living here for almost 3 1/2 years for him to leave, but it happened.
That being said, I couldn't EVER like Amy. (but she hasn't been on much either. hmmm- maybe she is interviewing at other stations-- far far away?!?! We can only hope.)
I don't have a problem with Faith. She isn't my favorite, but she isn't the worst. She isn't on right now either. Maternity leave or something.
How was your Christmas WT?

Thanks for asking...and my Christmas actually went pretty good.
I haven't watched KAMR since Bill left...and I'd always flip over there to catch his weather.
Also...Matt Hines seemed to be doing a pretty good job...and I think would have gotten the top job...but he may not have his AMS certification yet...for which they have to work a certain number of years under a certified meteorologist.
About maternity...Amanda on Ch.10...looks about big enough to pop.
I saw her about 5 or 6 weeks ago...and if I hadn't been in a conversation with 2 people...I would have asked Amanda...Is that twins or triplets you're about to hatch? ;D
Also...I've got add...that I just cannot make myself watch Faith and Andy...stumble and stutter through a newscast.
