I heard from 3 sources in the last week and a half. One customer mentioned a 3rd, but I can't remember which one he was talking about. He owns a sporting goods store on 45th and he told me about these two stores about a month ago, and now word is getting around..........

Hmm...I haven't heard this yet...and I agree - Old Navy I could live without. Most of the clothes I have bought from there did not wear well...they would fall apart or fade.
But Kohl's...I would be very suprised if Kohl's closed. They are always so busy...and I would be fairly irritated if they closed because I spend quite a bit of $$$ in that store, between my clothes, my husband's clothes, my daughter's clothes, housewares, etc...

It will most likely be just like when Mervyn's and our 2 K-Marts closed... Where it was a decision based on the corporate condition of the company...and not on Amarillo customer sales. This is something that will most likely be a corporate bottom line condition where they have to cut some of the smaller town stores...for the good of the company as a whole. It will suck not having Kohl's in Amarillo because they stocked complete size selections of business casual slacks (Lee brand) where stupid Dillards does not. Trying to buy mens slacks at Dillards sucks because they only stock short leg length and big waist sizes in slacks. I'm sorry...but I am not short and fat...and my legs are longer than my waist size. Kohl's stocked a complete size selection of slacks...where I could I get my 32 waist and 34 leg length. Whereas Dillards only seems to stock short and fat pants...where you have like a short 29 inch leg length...and a fat ass waist size like 38 or 40.

I'm really starting to question whether Amarillo really needed this new retail development where the old Western Plaza was...
Especially when stuff is closing on Soncy...where Famous Footwear had already shut down...and K-Mart closed in the building where Kohl's is now.
Also...I went to Sam's late this afternoon...and just for fun I went east on 34th to Ross.
I noticed that there appears to be a very big and long strip shopping center going in on 34th...between I-27 and Osage...on the south side next to all the Tradewind area.
From the size of the slab foundation I'm assuming this is going to be retail shopping over there.
With stuff closing on Soncy...would that really be needed in Amarillo?

I wear a 32W/36L and I have a hard time finding pants anywhere. I'm 6' 4" and 180 lbs. I've even gone to the Big and Tall store, but the waist sizes are too big. Maybe someone should open a Skinny and Tall store.....

I was in Kohl's this weekend and the employees there didn't know anything either. They even have signs in both entryways looking for employees.

kohls and old navy aren't closing... it's just another rumor running around Amarillo... those places are always busy and many people like to shop there because they are actually affordable. It's just another rumor...

It's just another rumor... I work at a restaurant/bar place. A couple of years ago (on a Thursday), we had heard that this restaurant on I-40 was going to close that same weekend. A girl that used to work for us had a husband that was a manager at the place that was going to close (neither one of them knew anything of said closure). Anyway, Saturday rolls around and corporate of said establishment tells the management to tell the employees not to show up Sunday and pretty much forever, because they were locking the doors on Sunday (they shut down really quick, kinda like Bourbon Street, even though that was a big surprise). Us not employed there knew, yet their own employees and management didn't. Why? Hell, I don't know. It seems that they should have known before us. Anyway, that Saturday night ALL the employees came to our place and we ALL partied the night away. It must suck going to work one night and they tell you you don't have a job the next 12 hours. I mean, if we want to quit a job, we should give a 2-week notice, huh? These a-holes didn't do that, and I hope they got some sort of severance benefits because of the timing. OKAY, point is that we knew the fact that this restaurant was closing down before the employees and they had no clue about it. Same with Kohl's/Old Navy........... Guess we'll have to wait and see..............

Any decision to close a large national chain store in Amarillo...is a decision made at the corporate bottom line level...
And the corporate management really doesn't care that much if the Amarillo store is full of people...because they are after keeping the company bottom line in shape.
The common store employees will be the last to know...unless they hear a rumor...because the management does not want the employees quitting early.
The local store management...which is really only lower middle management in the corporation...may not even be told in advance...because the top management does not want them quitting early...to take another job.
