I'm sorry if you are in that position, but I beg to differ. I am personally acquainted with several people in my extended family who are uninsured and were stricken with cancer. They're all being cared for at the M.D. Anderson center in Houston. One individual's cancer has gone into remission and he is working again. Can you put a hat on a victim, or are you just reciting liberal media talking points? I have been aquainted with a couple in my family that had no health insurance.... they died of cancer. MD Anderson is awesome in all that they can do... but they can only do so much if the cancer has spread so far... Do you realize how much the testing alone for early detection costs.... and the fear that strikes in some people...so they suffer in silence afraid of leaving their family with horrendous medical bills. I'm glad you have never had to be a witness to that...you are very fortunate...it is way more common than you have apparently been exposed to. Cancer is one thing... the medical profession seems to take exception to that... but your average working class person that has no benefits available... and we aren't talking about the working poor...we are talking your average middle class person... who has a heart condition or diabetes... there is very little if any help for them... and they are the freaking backbone of this country. Do you realize that the inmates in a Texas prison have better healthcare available to them than a person who has worked everyday of his life?? Call and get a price for your family for a healthcare plan.... a family in Amarillo with average income could not afford it....and there are a lot of companies out there that don't offer healthcare benefits. I have said on here that I am not a democrat or republican... I am just a real person... political games are what is destroying this country. I don't need to put a hat on the victims... I have held them in my arms as they were dying.

Marked, you really are a simpleton. Coming from someone who likes that big fat drug addict and watches Fox News, I'll take that as a compliment. If we have the best healthcare system, why do we have the highest infant mortality rate of industrialized nations?

Y'all are both being @sses...... but I am glad this was brought up.
In the counties I recently moved here from.....
They have pulled all the sliding scale women health clinics out...and now there is one for a three county area with a three month waiting list.
Several things are wrong with that.... middle class women were using these clinics for yearly exams...which includes a pap smear checking for cervical cancer and breast exams checking for breast cancer.... and of course birth control.... it is no secret that the last county they pulled out of is/was the poorest county in Texas with an EXTREMELY high teen pregnancy rate. When I complained publically that there would be women not able to afford the private practice exams for early cancer screening it fell on deaf ears...and the men were some of the dumbest I have seen when it comes to their ladies health......but when I mentioned in the same deal that the teen pregnancy and infant mortality rate was going to soar.... the rednecks went off on me saying that girls should just keep a quarter between their legs and this would not be an issue... and saying teach them right and they won't have sex before marriage....gee that is REAL freaking smart.... the ONLY education on sex and responsibilities that go with it that a LOT of those girls down there get is what the clinics teach them...either because their parents are SO freaking religious and self righteous the girls can't talk to them..so they talk to their friends and learn the wrong way....and then there are plenty of parents wh0ring around and the girls are living what they learn.... SO because they have pulled these clinics (and I doubt that is the only part of the state this has happened) Texas will soon see a HUGE jump in abortions and unplanned teen pregnancies...and STDs...because there is no education or prevention options available to them and I think that sucks...abortions should not be used as birth control and that is exactly what will be happening.... and the women not getting their yearly exams because they don't have the time or the money to drive three counties over for a pap smear... which in a private pratice could cost some of these women close to an entire weeks worth of paycheck... not everyone lives comfortably... more than not...just get by paycheck to paycheck... and these women deserve better.... you can bet your last dollar.... the murderers and thieves in prison get their yearly exam.... with only a $3 copay....and most don't even have to have that...if they are deemed indigent...which most are. A woman will ignore her health issues before taking something away from her children...like food or clothes... and by the time she can't ignore it anymore...many times it's too late. I think men are the same way.
So our healthcare system has LOTS of room for improvement.

2004 survey released by the National Center for Health Statistics estimated that approximately 70% of Americans were in "excellent" or "very good" health. [9] The overall performance of the United States health care system was ranked 37th by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2000.[10]

How is the above have to do with infant mortality?
Opportunity, freedom of belief and freedom to practice your religion is what makes this country great.

Nancy being in control is right for America. Wage hikes will be one thing right for America. No war in Iraq. Bush & his Republican party out and in jail. Hillary elected President, Obama as Vice-President. Democrats with control of all branches of government is what is right with America. The question was asked: What is right with America? Sorry to have to break it to you, bullgodd, but - Nancy Pelosi is not in control. She's not in control of the House (or if she is, she's doing a good job of hiding it). Pelosi's not in control of the White House. Heck, she didn't even get her own Air Force One when she put her order in. She's not in control of America. She's not in control of her party. And from what I saw at the State of the Union speech, she's barely in control of her dentures. You say that wage hikes will be one thing right for America. Glad to hear you're getting a raise! Attaboy! No war in Iraq? Uhh.... Borrow a newspaper. Read it. We ARE at war in Iraq. Bush is still President, and the Republican Party is not in jail. Hillary is not President, and B.O. is not Vice President (really, bullgod ... get a newspaper. Read it. really.) And then you say, "Democrats with control of all branches of government is what is right with America". Really, dude, the Democrats are not in control of all branches of government. Honest. I'm not kidding about the newspaper thing. Find one. Read it.
