OK....3A...We have to choose from Dalhart, Perryton, Lubbock Cooper, Lubbock Estacado, Borger and Levelland. The school on the way up in enrollment and talent is Lubbock Cooper. The gym and baseball field currently being built there will accommodate 4A enrollment. With the approach of Lubbock population this is in the cards for the Pirates. We will find out how good Cooper is when they open with Bushland. Lubbock Estacado will again be blessed with talent and speed. If everything fits, they will be the best 3A team to play in the Panhandle.

When did Frenship, Levelland, Lubbock Cooper and Lubbock Estacado become Panhandle teams?

When did Frenship, Levelland, Lubbock Cooper and Lubbock Estacado become Panhandle teams? Since the last reclassification and designation of districts by the UIL, these teams were placed in districts that include teams of the Panhandle. Since they are district opponents and will be playing their conference games in Panhandle, I considered it proper to include them on the list. Anyway, you go to a game in Lubbock or Levelland and come back to the Panhandle on a tank of gas.....the Permian Basin and Concho Valley is a two tank trip. I'm leaving out two tank teams.

That seems to be decent reasoning, but I think I'll reclassify the true Panhandle teams as South Plains teams. That way we will have something to argue about over Lord Calvert.

good reasoning sj...well, Cooper went undefeated in a very weak district last season, as anyone could see by the final scores of the three playoff games district 1-3a played in last year. They could easily repeat as district champs. As for 1a, Sunray looks interesting with new coach up there (let's just not tell them who else is in their district!) Bushland tough again I agree. Less than a week now till 2 a days

Hey, rocket....looking into 1A a little more, those Wellington Skyrockets will have a load to contend with this next season. They have some outstanding people back from a good team last season. Looks like we can put them as one to watch this fall.
OK, Phantom....you buyin' the Calvert?..... ;D

I am chomping at the bit for a new year. I love the study, the preparation, the fellowship with my colleagues, the short roadies to games, the smell of the cut grass, sounds of bands, the National Anthem, and then finally the ready for play whistle for the opening kick off.
I had a chance to see AHS in scrimmages this spring. The offense looked very sharp.

The smell of hot Field Turf in the afternoon...
It's almost like the smell of napalm in the morning.
Robert Duvall as a football coach. ;D
