well... how many of you who are complaining about losing trans siberian orchestra to lubbock are supporting our existing venues?
the golden light and the 806 on 6th street are hosting bands traveling through to SXSW all week this week. show up and make 'em remember amarillo as a cool place to stop and play a gig, and maybe they'll come back...

W-T, if Elton John does make it to Amarillo...go!!! He put on an excellent show! It would be a good roadtrip to come down here if he ever comes back. Of course, it's been 10 years since he was here before!

Elton John put on a show in Missoula, MT (home to the U of Montana) and couldn't wait to come back. He loves it there. No brag, just fact.
Ya, if W-T could promote the University that would expand cultural opportunities for Amarillo.

The people who run the Civic Center do a VERY POOR job of scheduling events for the coliseum.
The hockey and indoor football events take care of themselves.
But Amarillo could make a real effort to get more concerts.
And WT is slowly getting better about promoting itself.
But WT needs to work to schedule concerts as a service to students and the people of Amarillo.
When I was at WT in the 80's...they did sponsor an Air Supply concert at the Civic Center.
But WT hasn't really done much at all for public events since that.
WT could work with local and regional business sponsors to schedule at least 2 concerts a year.
The students would love it...and it would get the public more aware of WT.
Amarillo is still in need of more cultural events.
Hockey and football and RV shows are the only things happening at the coliseum.
And WT is missing out on a public relations opportunity.

Elton apparently loves Lubbock too. He played for almost three hours straight and ended the night with Circle of Life. Pretty impressive.

I'm going to make a BIG suggestion about this to some people at WT.
Concerts would be an excellent sponsorship opportunity for WT and businesses.
Advertise on radio and TV...and all the sponsors involved can get their names out there.
WT has half the number of students that Montana has.
But Amarillo has over twice the metro population of Missoula.
And the WT president president wants 15,000 students by 2020.
