Before Walmart built the 4 Stuper Centers...Amarillo had 4 or 5 K-marts.

We had 2 big K-Marts on Soncy where Kohl's is now...and on Georgia where Home Depot is now.

And then there were 2 or 3 mid-size K-marts in Amarillo.

Big stores will not come to a town these days unless they get some sort of tax break.

And the AEDC will not allow that to happen.

Because they are more about keeping new business out of Amarillo.

A Macy's would probably kill those dumb little local clothing stores on Georgia/Wolflin and Paramount.

So you can probably blame little local stores like Raffkind's for keeping good shopping out of Amarillo.

The old rich Amarillo families are still mad that locally owned Colbert's closed back in the late 80's.

Colbert's was a 2 story clothing store that was where Office Depot is now.

And Colbert's had another 3 story men's store that sat where Ruby Tequilas is now on Georgia.

Shopping sucks in Amarillo...and better big shopping might attract more people to live here.

But since the old rich Amarillo families don't want Amarillo to get bigger.....................

If they could...the old Amarillo families would take Amarillo back to the 1950's and 1960's.

Interesting ! me being a newbie never realized all that. I'm not rich, but, middle class. I figure that store over around Silverland
called Marcello's caters to the well heeled. Only mink I have is faux from QVC, I like to look at their billboards though. LOL
Yeah, Amarillo could use some more shopping options that's for sure.
When we go back to Evansville, In to visit his mother in the Spring I'm heading to Eastland Mall hahahahah
Walmart ran out K mart up there by the way. One of the chain grocery stores went out of business also, victim of Wallyworld.
You ain't gonna go up against Walmart and win, don't even try !
