Maybe we should just stop giving them tax incentives to drill. $63 a barrel oil should be incentive enough.

More wind power, right in the back door of the Sen. Kennedy and clan. We need to build more refineries. THe environmental wacko's have been standing in the way of this progress.

The U.S. government over the next five years will give a windfall of $7 billion to oil companies -- yes, the same oil companies that reported record profits last year. But wait, it gets worse: If one oil company that is suing the government succeeds, that windfall could hit nearly $35 billion. Oh, and one more thing: There appears to be little anyone can do about it. Think about that the next time you pay a small fortune to fill your tank. economistsview.typepad.com/economistsview/2006/02/tax_breaks_for_.html

Slapping new taxes on fuel producers will only cost consumers even more. Prices will increase as a result of the oil companies passing the taxes along.

We need another excess profits tax. marked, I was responding to unk. Oil companies certainly could do without tax breaks, drilling incentives, and reduced lease fees. But as to profit: Oil company profits are currently taxed, and the more profit they make, the more tax revenues go to the treasury. Or would we all be happier if oil companies were broke, failing, and laying off tens of thousands of workers?

Every business enterprise passes along every expense incurred to their customers. If they didn't, they wouldn't survive as a business.
Businesses don't pay taxes, people pay taxes.
Anyone who thinks otherwise has been brainwashed by liberal moonshine.

We should be happier if the most profitable companies in the history of our country weren't getting such large tax breaks.

Someone needs to stop these bad a$$ oil company's obscene profits. We need another excess profits tax. What's obscene about profits? If you think their profits are excessive then don't buy their oil; buy someone else's. Can't find any cheaper oil? Then I guess their profits aren't excessive. That's market price. You would have them give away their oil at less than the market price?
