DH came home last night and said I should mention that his co-worker is dealing with credit card fraud that can be traced back to Zookini's restaurant. Over $12,000 worth! Stuff charged all over the place, to California and Europe, too.
The authorities told him that several people have reported similar cases traced back to Zookini's.

I can't help but ask: Who has so little folding money (actual cash) in pocket that they would need to pay an $8 tab at Zookini's with a credit card? Does DH's co-worker purchase a bag of chips and a soda at Toot-N-Totum with an American Express card as well?
Customer at checkout in Home Depot purchasing .49 cent faucet washer: "Uhhh... you take Discover Card?" WTF? All your actual hard currency tied up in the "piggy bank" fund?

I use my debit card for all kinds of stupid stuff... but it is only tied to "the piggy bank fund". And I transfer money into that account and never keep more than $1000 in it... LMAO!!! actually usually much less... that would suck to steal a card and it told you no on your first attempt at using it!

Ama, I almost never have cash. Probably because when I do, I just spend it. It's easier to keep up with my credit card than it is to keep up with cash! But if you want to bring me some cash, I could spend yours to. ;D (You know how long )

I don't keep cash on me so I have a good excuse to say "no" when I'm panhandled.

I use my debit card to get money back so I have some ready cash for small purchases. I HATE standing in line, and worse yet I HATE standing in line behind some yo-yo head that is writing a check for a $1.98 purchase. Like George Carlin said about the very same subject - "Try using some $@ money!!!"

Someone writing a check for 1.98....... LOL..... one of two things they have teenagers and forgot they gave all their cash to them...or someone is writing a hot check because they don't have $2 to their name... and it quickly becomes a $52
A lot of places will charge a fee if the debit or credit card purchase is not over $5
If you are using debit cards...and you order things on the internet and various places around town it is best to keep an account specifically for that... People say "well I have fraud protection I can get all my money back" .... sure eventually....but if they clean your bank account out...you are going to have to borrow some money or eat at friends and family's houses until they get it straightened out...and if it happens on a Thursday-Sunday you are just SOL... the card company can kill your card...but they can't fix the bank account.
As far as revolving cards cards.... I have one and it doesn't even leave the house... it is for emergencies.... The way I see it living within your means and not flopping a credit card out at every register you pass is the best way to be...it is a headache for loan officers and mortgage brokers...but there are other ways to overcome the underwriters requirement that you have credit card debt to bring your FICO score up to get a loan.
Also you need to be careful about dropping receipts or leaving them laying around... there are still places that have your entire # printed on the receipt.

Also...be very careful buying gas with a debit/ATM card...at Walmart...because if you choose the receipt option...it prints your first and last name on the receipt. So...if you forget to grab your receipt...the next person...at that pump...has your name...and could have seen what you are driving and what you look like. And yes...I do almost all my Walmart purchases...with a debit/ATM card...at the register...which I like...because it comes straight out of the bank account...and keeps me from fumbling with cash. Doing that...I can also get up to $100 cash back...from my bank account...without paying an ATM fee.

Always check the billing on your credit card statement. I recently had three charges on my oil company credit card at a store in Kansas. I haven't been in Kansas in years. Plus, my credit card was in my possession the entire time.
Upon checking, I found each time you use your credit card at a station or convenience store, the store gets a copy of that purchases that includes your full credit card number. It only takes one dishonest employee to copy down your numbers and then have access, such as re-employment, to enter your number for their purchase. This is apparently what happened to me.
My past history with the oil company was such they apparently realized what had happened and forgave the charges. I wouldn't count on this happening every time.

We bought gas last night at Flying J. We saw the gentleman before us waiting for a receipt and never got it and left. So when we bought gas, mr. bunnyface did expect a receipt because he knew it wasn't printing. But when he got done, he heard the machine start clicking. He waiting for a moment and then a huge stretch of tape came out. It had the receipts for about the last six purchases. All of them but one had the person's full name on it. Only one receipt didn't have the name on it, only the last 4 of the card number. And just so you know, we took the receipts home and shredded them.

Well guys, I just got hit for $400.00 out of Pasadena, CA and someplace out in Iowa. Thankfully I am a poor college kid, so there wasn't much to steal, but it is still frustrating! I don't like to carry much cash because I got held up and now I don't want to use my debit card because my # will get stolen. Maybe a shotgun should be my next purchase.....
