The Worley Hospital was shut down around 75. I can remember going there to see my grandpa in 73, but they were only keeping patients on 1 floor at that time. I think it was originally opened in the early 30s, but I am not sure about that. After it stopped operating as a hospital, a local doctor bought it with the intent of refurbishing it into an office/clinic type thing. I think a local charity organization owns it now.
The "new" hospital at that time was Highland General that was located at Hobart and Kentucky. What is now the NBC Bank Plaza. Highland General had to of been built in the mid to late 50s.
The Hughes Building is the white building with the facing falling off in places. The south section of that building has been closed off for last 12-15 years. One of the local internet provider and 2 cell phone companies have dish and communication equipment located on the top since it is the tallest building in the downtown area. I was actually in that building 3-4 weeks ago.
The first 2 pictures are of the First Presbyterian Church. As a kid I went to that church a few times for different functions. There was an underground hallway that connected the sanctuary with the dinning hall area. We thought it was cool to be able to sneak back and forth thru that, not everyone knew about it.
Thanks for the pics. Kind of sad because they do really bring out how run down the area has become, but also brings out lots of memories.

B R A V O....Jeeper's.... WONDERFUL PICTURES. your eyes also showed how run down Pampa has really become. ( Now that's funny. I was thinking how beautiful he made Pampa look. It has been years since I've been there, though. I had forgotten Pampa had so many beautiful old buildings. Great pictures, Jeep! Hereford has some interesting places, too. Sadly, one of the best ones (an old hotel) was torn down and the library is now on that spot. Hereford also has some brick streets. St. Anthony's Catholic Church there is still one of the prettiest buildings I've ever seen.

Wow...love seeing pictures like this. Thanks for sharing them!
I think it's easy to see the old abandoned buildings and think the whole town is like this. I was in Borger a few years ago, and saw the same thing. But Borger is full of activity now. It's just that some of those great old buildings are too difficult to fix up. Asbestos is the biggest factor. I believe the tallest building in Borger (Borger Hotel) has been abandoned for years, and it looks really bad. Maybe when I make my millions, I'll move back and fix those great old buildings up.
