Does anyone know if Bell Textron plans to bringing more program to the Amarillo plant? I know about the V22, H1 upgrade and presidential programs. My son is interested in applying for an engineering position and moving back to Amarillo. His only fear is that the government cuts the V-22 funding he will be out of a job and will have to move again as there not many other aerospace engineer job here. What do you think the odd of the V-22 keeping going? Does Bell have long term plans to keep expanding the facility and bringing in more production? It hard to find any good info online.

Heard the other day...that V22's are supposed to be deployed to Iraq...so it is still a viable program.
But...you do have to wonder how long the production run will be.
Always taking a bit of a risk with industries tied to the government and politics.

don't know if this info helps ya or not. my dad works at Bell (not the plant here, but in HEB) on the V22 project. Anyway, he told me that anytime Bell hires ANY new employee, they are sent here as a condition of their employment. If they don't want to live here, then they don't want to work for Bell. The higher ups originally had planned to move EVERYONE associated with the V22 here, but when employees made their feelings known about their unwillingness to move, the higher ups decided that all new hires would relocate here.

I heard a second hand account that at a job fair in the Fort Worth area, that they were telling everyone that if they wanted to work for Bell Helicopter they would have to move to Amarillo.
Total hearsay, so for whatever it's worth. Defense spending is a political football, but there are plenty of democrats that have voters employed for defense contractors in their districts. I came here to take a white collar position that there isn't any other employers in the area. I came here and work my butt off and am still employed.
As far as trying to predict the future goes ... don't. Make a decision to commit and then devote your full effort to making it succeed. The future will take care of itself, and there is nothing you can do about it anyway. All you can do is work to the best of your ability to make yourself valuable to your employer in the event of a downturn - make it so the other guy has to leave instead of you.
