Just wanted to share our experience at Macaroni Joe's this weekend in case you're thinking of going there. Don't!! My husband and I waited at our table for ten minutes without receiving any service. Upon informing the snooty host that we needed a server, he merely nodded and seven minutes later, still no waiter so we left. Walking out the door, past the host, no apology or acknowledgement was given to us. We have been there a handful of times before and were very disappointed at the service this time, it is going downhill with the new ownership apparently. Other friends have concurred.

Expecting anything above mediocre service in this town is rather high expectations. Workers here in restuarants are lazy, ill trained, clueless loofs, for the most part. I can not wait to travel when I can get real service at a restuarant outside this city.
Sounds really bad what happened at Macs. When they do not even say sorry and see you leave thats when I take opportunity to chew some arse because it makes me feel good. Do not chew the persoan sitting folks they are clueless. Find a manager and riddle them with your experiance and how they have wasted your time, efforts, how bad it made you feel for choosing them, how you can not wait to post on message boards and tell at least 10 friends.
Thanks for the info I will make sure I do not drop by.

I was alerted to this from a friend of mine, I am one of the new owners of Macaroni Joe's. My information is posted for all and any to respond to directly. This matter is totally unacceptable for Mac Joe's or any other local restaurant. I can't apologize enough. I wish I would have been alerted to the problem that night or the next day so I could have fixed the problem on the spot. I am here all the time and we work hard to prevent this from happening. I can't explain to you why this happened, but I can tell you that my management staff and I will try to focus on this and take immediate action. We made the mistake of hiring a few servers back from under the old management. They were anything but professional and we let those go. I hope that everyone reading this will understand our concern and know that this is not the norm by any means. There is absolutely no reason that you should have to wait that length of time to be greeted by the server, someone should notice !! Since we took this over we have lowered our prices, brought the same great chefs back and are now demanding TEAMWORK, one thing that did not exist in the old days. I apologize for the long drawn out letter, but this one posting has the potential to do a great deal of damage and if we were an uncaring arrogant group of people i would not have taken the time to respond. We are here for YOU, and trust me I have fired people on the spot for service like this and am not afraid to do it again. I would ask everyone, if you ever have a problem at any business, please call the owner immediately. You can tell very quickly if they care or not. I hope any of you that have tried us or have not because of this occurrence will contact me and let me know how we did. I am here for YOU !!! respectively, Kevin Hawkins Macaroni Joe's kevin@macaronijoes.com

Kevin is a good guy. I remember him from the ol' Santa Fe days. He will make everything right. Give the restaurant another shot!

In the for what its worth department, talk to the owner of the business first before going public with a complaint. Give them a fair shot at fixing your problem first. I do not know any of the parties involved, but I do know that business owners stick their necks out and take on a lot of risk to open and run restaurants. It is a very competitive business in Amarillo and criticism like this can be damaging, and unfairly so if the business owner is committed to satisfied customers.

Horr I completely disagree with your view. Off course commnets like this can be damaging. BUSINESS 101. Take care of your customer. It is understood in business and restaurant management that you will not always be told about problems at your restuarant. Thats why you create a system that trains, educates, and follows up on employess to ensure your doing what it takes. To chastise someone and say they should contact restuarant ownership 1st is unfair to the actual consumer. Ultimatley it is the risk of doing poor business that you may not ever learn of issues and ultimatley your bottom line suffers. Business owners are not omnipotent either. Thats why messages should be visbale around your restuarant on who and how to contact them if needed. Messages and guarantees of service should be visable.
If is completley within the right of a consumer to not tell a manager or owner and their right to do it as well. I have had a few experiances where contacting management is just not worth it to me. I have never gone back to those places. To be fair to some places I let them know about it. Bottom line is ultimatley the consumer pays the bills of the employees working at that establishment. Far too restuarant employees in this town understand that concept because we have an abundence of places they can work. Trust me I have seen the evolution of workers in this field in this town over the years. MAJOR work ethic differences. But Amarillo has nothing better to do than eat out so most medicore to poor establishments thrive and survvie when they would not in several other markets. My dollar votes and typically it avoids consistantly bad places.

Chastise someone? I believe I was addressing a point based on a personal view I have on the subject of fairness, and I do walk the talk, I have mentioned sub standard service to the owner and have usually gotten a complimentary meal as a result, but as I said it was in the for what it's worth department so to each his own.

My buddy and his wife, along with my wife and myself were also treated to horrible service last weekend. I referred him to this site for the owner's email address and he said he was going to write in regards to our problems. I felt embarrassed about inviting them to town for dinner at this rathole.

Well, I haven't been to Macaroni Joe's yet, but I can tell you that if Kevin Hawkins is running the show, problems will be corrected soon enough. Kevin is an excellent restaurant manager, quite possibly the best in Amarillo. He has always taken very good care of my family. He was an integral part of running Santa Fe for years, and the place really went down hill after he left. Keep in mind that it was once the most popular restaurant in Amarillo and KH was a big part of that.
