When did the zoo go from free to pay? And is it worth the money? BTW, I usually just lurk here; but this had me baffled and I figured ya'll would know. Liz

The zoo is free. I have not been there in a long time but remember that it is really beautiful there. I am not sure what all they have but am sure it is worth the trip over there.....Have fun....

The zoo isn't free. We tried going this past Saturday, and couldn't get in because we didn't have any money with us, and their was a gate attendant. I believe the price was $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for the kids. Anyways, like I said, I was baffled I hadn't heard that it was going to be a *charge to get in type* zoo. And wondered when this change took place. Also I was wondering if it was worth the price of admission. Liz

I remember reading one time that they were hoping to convert to a pay-entry zoo at some point after some improvements were made, but I didn't realize they had done it. Unless they made a LOT of improvements since I was there about a year ago, it wouldn't be worth it to me.

I wish Lubbock had a zoo. And I'm not talking about the city council...that is a zoo.

It's still free. We went the other day. I believe they were giving a special program one day this month, on a Saturday, where it was a pay to get in type thing.

It is in Thompson Park, next to Wonderland Park. North of town, just off of 287 and Martin Luther King street, aka 24th. I hope that helps. I guess it is still free, except that freak day that I went and was asked to pay. I will be checking it out again real soon. Liz

We went the other day and it was free. I think they should start charging. I don't know how they make it w/o charging. But $3.00? Come on. That is incredibly cheap. Even for a program.
