I tuned in to 96.9 FM KMML yesterday, and they have a message on a continuous loop, saying KMML is no longer available and to change your pre-set button to 101.9 FM for the new KAT Country 102.
What's up with that? KMML has been around a long time.

I'm not sure and hadn't heard...but I'm sad if those call letters are leaving Amarillo.
But....when I was wrapping up high school in the early-80's...and starting college at WTSU...
KY99 at 98.7 FM....was a good hard rock station....and there was somewhat of minor uproar....when Mel Tillis came in....and bought that station...and converted them to KMML country.
Traditionally in Amarillo....KMML was at 98.7 FM....and for a long time....operated out of that strip shopping center at Plains and Avondale.

Kat Country 102, Jack FM 98.7, 96.9, Mixed 94.1, and Newstalk 940 AM are now owned by Gap Broadcasting instead of Clear Channel so they are changing the formats on the radio stations so now Kat Country is now new country and KMML will now be known as the new 969 Kiss FM coming soon keep listening!

Thanks for the information... So are they going to have any local DJs on Kat Country? I haven't heard any talking on there yet.

Well crud. They are the reason I quit listening to KMML. So I guess KGNC is all that's left. I guess KGNC, The Eagle and my mp3 player will break up my day well enough.

Sorry folks...but I just have trouble listening to country stations. We need more stations playing late-70's to early-90's rock/pop in Amarillo.

I don't listen to country exclusively, but it's what I listen to in the mornings because it's not as...caustic, maybe. I'm something of a slow starter in the mornings. I don't want anything hard to listen to but a string quartet would put me back to sleep. Country is a nice medium. After that I usually switch to The Eagle or sometimes The Kar.
