Shumate has certainly been surrounded by controversy for the last couple of years. There have been no indictments, only accusations. The law is innocent until proven guilty. I don't think people require that level of proof to disapprove of the individual.
I also wonder what people think about Farren. Does that fact that he was Shumate's Chief Deputy and Randall County's brother bother anyone?
This race will be very interesting

The Farren deal certainly raises questions about what "really" is going on, or whether Farren used it to his advantage to place doubt on Shumate because he knew he wanted to run for sheriff. I don't know, but you are right: It will be very interesting.
