Gotta wonder about TXDOT and their big electronic signboards on I-40. Pretty stupid to be flashing a 90 Day Test message over and over for 90 days... when it only takes a few minutes...to know if a sign is working or not. They could have taken a few minutes to make sure each sign is working...and then moved on to putting up useful messages. Does not take 90 days of flashing the same message...over and over...to know if an electronic sign is going to work. Why wait 90 days before putting real messages on the signs?

Well now, perhaps its because you all dont know where a good optometrist is and you all drive blindly and need a message drilled in for 90 days? J/K you know.

I have wondered the same thing. I've never seen that message anywhere but Amarillo.

Rondar, I didn't see your message until after you were going to be here. I know of 4 really good ones. If you are interested, PM me.

My 6 year old said the same thing. He thought it was a ridiculous amount of testing.
I did see some messages about fires on it the other day.

Amarillo is the northern-most outpost of TXDOT...so I'm sure we get the TXDOT scrubs. I've even heard that Bell/Textron has trouble getting managers to want to come to Amarillo...and that they have now made Amarillo a mandatory tour of duty for all new Bell managers. The Amarillo TXDOT folks must not know what to think of this "new-fangled" electronic sign technology...that is actually proven technology...that the NFL was putting in football stadiums...as far back as the early 70's. Even WTAMU has had an electronic light matrix signboard...at it's stadium...since the 1985 football season. No need to test the signs...since I'm sure the sign company...thoroughly and completely tested the signs...before selling them all over the country. BTW.....Amarillo TXDOT are the people who think the big old beautiful trees down by Canadian...are reaching out...and grabbing cars off the road.

Signs are now off...so I'm wondering a bit...if 90 day test period expired...or if the TXDOT folks actually read this thread.

I saw the amber alert on them the other day about the older man from Lubbock. What I am worried about is those people who have a cig. in one hand, phone in another, drinking a coke and eating and putting on makeup THEN TRYING TO READ A SIGN!
