We're very fortunate in England in that religion was abandoned in centuries past and replaced with the game of cricket, after years of wrangling and fighting by different religious factions the man in the street just gave up on it, life is much simpler and more peaceful since good sense prevailed.
The other parts of the uk are slowly catching up but parts of scotland and northern ireland are still unfortunately stuck in the quagmire.........
Anyway when we do on the rare occasion happen to find ourselves somehow at an occasion were a religious song could be encountered this is the song which will make the hairs on an englishmans neck stand up....
JERUSALEM
And did those feet in ancient time
Walk upon England's mountains green?
And was the holy Lamb of God
On England's pleasant pastures seen?
And did the Countenance Divine
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here
Among these dark Satanic Mills?
Bring me my Bow of burning gold:
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear! O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire.
I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand
Till we have built Jerusalem
In England's green and pleasant land.
From Milton, a poem in two Books (1804-1808) by
William Blake.
