I hear Amarillo is known for its many Thai restaurants. This was kind of a surprise. Any recommendations on a good one?

I have just started eating Thai food.
There is one at Washington and 34th that is pretty good. (drive through or eat in)
Thai Town on Ross (I think that's the name) is good too. They don't accept debit cards though.

The finest Thai food in Amarillo is at the Thai Star on the Boulevard (next door to the new fire station, across from the old Cattlemen's Cafe). It may look like a dump but it is clean and is sooooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!
Call before going to make sure they are open. The last time I checked, they are not open on Saturday or Sunday and they close about 7:00 or 7:30 pm M-F.

I wouldn't go as far as to say we are known for the Thai Food here. The unique thing about Amarillo is our large population of people that came here from SE Asia, especially Laos. Laos food and culture are similar to Thai and most of our Thai resturant are owned by Laos peoples. Catholic Family Service sponsered some reffugees from Laos after the Vietnam war. Because of the low cost of living and high paying jobs at IBP and Levi several thousand Lao moved here in the 80's. I watched Eastridge go from mostly white to mostly Asian in a matter of 10 years. I have heard that we have more Thai resturanut than any other area per capita. This group of immigrants definitly expanded our dinning options but they have a long way to go before surpasing the 72 oz steak that Amarillo is realy known for.

Is Thai Arawan still open? We were out doing our errands and it looks like there is a big for lease sign on the window. There aren't any signs on the front.

They looked like they were not there yesterday. Sounds right in my book. Went there once and it sucked eggs. They also had horrible food inspections if I am remembering correctly.

Thai Arawan is open...they moved locations. They are on Wolflin in that shopping center next to the Holiday Inn Express. We love eating there. Great food...great service.
