We are going to be in town this thursday night and most of friday. My wife desperately would like to try the Boot Hill Restaurant out. I understand it is in Vega which is maybe 30 miles west of Amarillo?. We have no phone number or such to call and make any reservations. Does this restaurant advertize in a paper there? And can any of you tell me in a ballpark figure what hours they keep? The reason is we may get into town in the 6-7 area, need to get a motel, then drive to the restaurant. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well Well. A big fat 0 in the reply column , so I decided to rescue myself from that 0 reply on a thread stigma that could stunt my growth, cause global warming, make my bike tires go flat, etc etc. But not to fear, O afraid to reply to a out of stater wanting information on a mere restaurant in your area . We shall make this a quest and shall find this treasure house of food all by ourselves whilst we are in town. Hmmm now this gives me an idea. Maybe ole Rondar could come to the rescue of future 0 reply threads, so the owners of that wont be growth stunted, flat tires, etc etc. Now, I realize that down the road of threadsifting for 0's, there is going to be the ocasional thread that should be ignored. And will be. Yowsa, I'm trundling off to the basement to see if I can find a cape or maybe I have to make one that says "Zero Reply Threadman" J/K you all. It's late and I'm tired and it is funny to me. I just hope you texans have a funny sense of humor and laugh with me like I am laughing. ;D

You don't have to be so snarky. If you'd bothered to investigate the topic of Good Eats, you would see that Boot Hill has already been discussed in another thread.

Ahhh Writer I wasn't trying to be very snarky anyway. And yes I bothered to read the other thread in good eats, very hard to miss it as not that many posts. But still we (my wife and I anyway) have no clue as to the restaurant hours and such, or even a phone number yet to call them. And by being a little snarky as you put it, I did get a reply anyway. And I do thank you for that sincerely. I live 2 states away and we do not have local access to things except the internet and that did not turn up much except for what was already posted for the most part in the good eats forum. Maybe our Motel will have a brochure on it or will know something about it. And jeez, I thought my zero reply was cute. I was trying to be humorous about it and provoke a response. I'm still in a good mood and dont feel a bit snarky. I may in the morning when I wake up and havent had my 3-4cups of coffee tho lol.

I will plead total innocence. I have never been to Boot Hill, don't live in Vega and know nothing about it. I could have posted that after you asked about it, but I really didn't think that answer would be of much value to you. I didn't consider how zero replies might harm a fragile ego.

It's true folks...there is a conspiracy to ignore rondar...but he just won't let us forget about him.... He's really the Invisible Man...and he just doesn't know it.

Rondar - I don't know much about this restaurant, but a quick google search yielded a phone number. (806) 267-2904
As far as hours, one site mentioned 5-10pm, not sure if they have expanded those yet or not.
Have fun!

Hello Cat's Meow. And thank you mustakister. That is sincerely appreciated as we leave in a few hours from when I post this. I dont know if I used google or not, but only thing my search turned up was a game site review about the restaurant and then an amarillo globe story.
I knew you guys would come through. You always have in the past even when on the other board we all used to go through.
And yeah, this morning the thread is still funny to me. Man o Man I love the sarcastic humor of The Far Side. How I miss the new stuff since the author kind of retired from it.

While your there Rondar, look into if they ever got that “Thersday Night Lady’s” thing going, I still have an itch to know what that is!
By the way, I saw the question and was wondering why no one answered it myself. Course, I wonder about lots of things.

Ok, we in fact made it to Vega an hour before the restaurant closed. We were only ones seated in the dining area, and we heard general bar room talk emanating from the other half of the restaurant, which is a bar.
We had a nice drive west of Amarillo and saw all the lights blinking from the wind generators somwhere around Bushland. The restaurant was nice and clean. Waitress friendly and asked where we wanted to be seated. We picked the dining area and looked at the menu, which is sheets of paper stapled together. I ordered a steak with Rory's marinade on it, daughter got a blackened chicken sandwich, and my wife got ( I forgot the restaurants' official name of the sandwich) sliced beef with peppers and onions and stuff on like a hogie bun. Every thing was very good. The mushrooms that came with my meal were the best I have ever eaten without a doubt. Steak was cooked/grilled to perfection, and the wife's said her sandwich was perfectly cooked and same with my daughter's sandwich. We all kind of traded bites of stuff to try it out. We didnt get any appetizers but wife and daughter split a homemade bread pudding which they really liked, and me not having any as bread pudding is not my cup of tea.
To be fair this is not the best overall restaurant food we have ever eaten, but we enjoyed it a lot and will go again sometime when we visit Amarillo again. The mushrooms really left an impression and I would go back just to eat a plate of them!!!
It made my wife and daughter very very happy as they watch the Food Network and watched the particular episodes of Rory going up to the final episode. We didnt see Rory but we did tell the waitress that we drove down from Kansas just to eat there. We didnt ask if she was there or not either, we just figured she would tell here if she was there.
Sailerwes, we left before you posted, so we didnt ask any questions about that. Nor did I see anything posted anywhere about it. We were there on a thursday night and didnt see anything special mentioned or going on there. There were maybe 6 cars in the customer parking lot with us being the only ones like I mentioned earlier in the dining area. I never poked my head on the other side of the place so I assume there may have been 5-10 people in the bar area. We could have eaten there if we wished but we wanted to eat in the dining area.
