While there are things at the Big Texan and Country Barn I would love to see changed, such as having Prime beef, local foods, maybe even better cooks . . . I will say that both are places Amarillo should be proud to have.
Recently I drove from San Francisco to Amarillo then to Nashville, and can say from these experiences that these restaurants are welcome stops when driving on I 40. It is sad to go through places, even larger than Amarillo, and have nothing anywhere near the highway worth a food lover’s stop. So before bashing them too badly, let’s think about what good they may be.

WOW!!! Thats a riot. What good they maybe! I live here man! I am not benefitting any from the Big Texans or Country Barns existance. I used to love Country Barn but being there 3 times after the move and suffering form poor service, jacked food prices, and poor food enough is enough. Yeah along I-40 that maybe some better places to go but my gawd I live here that makes no difference to me.
Your 1st paragraph is the primary issue with Amarillo restuarants. NOt to mention better training of your customer facing staff.

As a food service person, I recognize many of Amarillo’s restaurants could be better. Would love to see a change.
But part of the problem might be that the largest issue many people have with restaurants is, as your last food topic stated, who is taking their order at McD.

I would love to see it to. I hate going to places with the family in hopes of having a good experiance. My expectations at 90% of Amarillo's dinning is that it will be medicore at best.

I love the Big Texan food! (I don't get steak though). I also highly enjoy one of the desserts that they offer. Guess I am the odd man out.
