The Nanny Diaries- I was looking forward to seeing this movie. I loved the book. Scarlett Johansen does a great job as Annie, the Nanny for Mr and Mrs X. Laura Linney does a great job of being a royal class b!tch Mrs. X. There are cuss words so it isn't suitable for young children. But it is one of those movies that makes your job look not too bad compared to what this young lady had to endure.
Hairspray- John Travolta in drag creeped me out. I never saw the original movie with Ricki Lake, so I didn't have anything to compare it with, but I liked it. The young gal that played the main character Tracy did a great job and I hope to see her in other movies. Christopher Walken singing and dancing also creeped me out. (I just always think of an interview that Bob and Tom would play, Kevin Pollock impersonated Christopher Walken and that memory cracks me up.)
Skin Walkers- interesting storyline, cheesy special effects. There is a young boy that is the key to end the battle between two groups on Earth. The battling groups are werewolves, one faction wants to end the curse and the other group doesn't. Lots of familiar faces, but not enough to associate them with past roles.
The Namesake- I was really looking forward to this as well. Another great book. A young Indian family moves to America to have a better life and live the American dream. There children seem to pull away from the traditional Indian customs and culture. The struggles of the children to find their own way versus the parents wanting their customs to continue is a common theme in most families, regardless of heritage. Great adaptation.
Still to watch
The Waitress
We will probably go to the midnight showing of I am Legend. Will give my opinion if we make it.
