Another week on the road to the play-offs,.....'cept for local 3A schools. Perryton is the only one of them playing this week and against Midland Christian. Vegas does not give a line on this game and neither does sj....
Here's the week as I see it on area games of interest. Jump in and tell me what you think.
Amarillo High - Tascosa....boy oh boy....hell week in Amarillo. Price of eggs is up due to demand... This game will be a dandy. I expect at least 12,000 football aficionados to witness this one. Tascosa needs a victory in the worst way. Two losses would be a deep hole for the Rebels with Coronado yet to play...AHS does not need to lose with both Monterey and Coronado still to come on the schedule. Besides if Amarillo High loses, that could be the tie-breaker that means they stay home from the play-offs. After writing Chapter One of the Sandie - Rebel Saga....Rebs win!
Monterey - Coronado...all indications are Coronado will win this one. Coach Morton of Monterey is not used to that. He is not going to get used to it. This district is going to be something else before it is over. Monterey wins!
Randall - Palo Duro...Randall Raiders do Dons....Randall is doing what Palo Duro is still trying to do.
Hereford - Pampa...definite play-off implications in this game. Hereford comes away with another win.
Dumas - Caprock....another interesting game with programs that are gaining some traction. Good to see them both become more competitive. With that said, I have to lean toward the Demons from Dumas in what could be a very good game.
Frenship - Plainview...every now and then, a team has a season all the wheels fall off....there is not a wheel withing 20 miles of Plainview. This is not the 0-fer season the Bulldogs are used to having. Frenship will have their way. Even with utmost compassion by the Tigers, it will be bad.
Spearman - Canadian...hopefully it won't be the mud bowl played a few years ago. Canadian cuts another notch in the shot gun offense on the way to the play-offs.
Stratford - Panhandle...defense for both teams should dominate but this may not mean a low scoring game. Turn overs and field position will be very important in this one. Short fields created by defense could lead to most of the points. Stratford seems a little more ready for this type game than Panhandle. Elks win!
Sanford Fritch - West Texas High...Hutchinson County Championship is on the line. The only question is will SF light up the Comanches as bad as Panhandle (41-0) did last week.
Tulia - Bushland....I say it again, Tulia is not a bad team....they just seem to have scheduled some better ones....they did it again, but not by choice. Bushland wins.
Highland Park - Friona...Friona, nuff said....
Dimmitt - Muleshoe....Dimmitt has flashbacks to state winning basketball days as Mules demolish the Bobcats.
Littlefield - Childress....a double humdinger....this one is probably for the district championship, revenge and a whole lot of pride. Can't think of a better set of reasons to play it. Being played in the WPA built home of the Bobcats, (If you are too young to know what WPA stands for, google) Childress is going to be darn hard to beat. I guarantee some young men on both sides are going to wake up Saturday morning with bruises and sore spots. Childress will also wake up with the W.
Booker - Sunray...it will be a nice trip for Booker...nice win for Sunray.
Gruver - White Deer...second big game in a row for White Deer. They took it on the chin last week from Sunray 7-0. Don't think the Bucks can afford a second loss in district. Too bad a good Gruver team has something to say about that. It took a coin toss last week to pick the winner of the White Deer game. The old 1899 silver dollar is out....heads, home team...White Deer...tails, visitor team....Gruver... Coin is in the air....tails it is.....sorry Bucks...Gruver wins!
That's 15 games if I counted right. If I left your game off, jump right in and post it. I will be happy to give you my opinion on it.
Captain, call the coin in the air.....
