Why the direction for WTAMU...needs to be UP...and not stay small. Now is the time for WT to start preparing for a move to D1 athletics. This is from the strategic plan of WT's fellow Lone Star Conference member...University of Central Oklahoma...
All of these are points that WTAMU needs to strive toward...and I believe that a move to Div. 1 in athletics would also do WTAMU a lot of good as far as growth and moving forward.
Also...WT has no published strategic plan available on its website for the public.
You can search
www.wtamu.edu and find lots of talk about creating a strategic plan...but you can't find the WT strategic plan.
If anyone knows of a link to the WT strategic plan...please let me know.

This is why it would be a huge mistake for WTAMU to move from a large stadium...to a smaller stadium...
When WT has shown several times over....that Kimbrough can be filled to capacity with football fans.
A move to D1A or D1AA would be a great way to raise the profile and school size of WTAMU...
And increase the WT enrollment...which has not grown significantly since 1971...when a 29 year growth trend slammed to a halt.
AISD completely renovated Dick Bivins Stadium...which is almost identical in construction to Kimbrough...for only $5.7 million...with all new pressbox and concessions and restrooms and dressing facilities and handicapped access.
Also...Dick Bivins Stadium is 10 years old than Kimbrough Memorial Stadium.
This proves that it would be much more economical to renovate Kimbrough...than waste more money on building a smaller stadium...just because some want to forever lock WT into D2 athletics.
It's time for WT to start growing significantly again...and D1 athletics...and NOT a smaller stadium...is a great way to kick-start that growth for WT.
In addition...it is also time for the size and population of little Canyon, TX to show some growth.
Just think of the incredible economic benefits for the Amarillo/Canyon area from a much larger WTAMU...with say 12,000 to 13,000 students.
Texas Tech drives the Lubbock economy...and it's time for Amarillo to start seeing a lot more economic and social benefit from WTAMU.Now is the time for WT to start preparing for a move to D1 athletics.
