1. That's not how you raise public awareness of WT or its athletic program. 2. That's not how you get the public in Amarillo better involved with WTAMU. 3. That's not how you get alumni better involved with their alma mater. 4. That's not how you increase attendance at WT athletic events. 5. That's not how you encourage support and giving and fundraising for WT athletics. Mike McBroom...you are farking up again...with the secret and silent fundraising.Yep...we can tell that you are trying to keep fan attendance down to justify a smaller stadium.
Mike...you need to quit listening to Mr. Secrecy RAS619...and start trying to raise the profile and fan attendance of WTAMU athletics...and you don't do that with silent and secret fundraising.Yep McBroom...you are farking up again...and proving that you are just a puppet...who has to ask permission from RAS619...so you can go to the bathroom. As a WT AD...you are doing everything you can to kill public involvement and keep fan attendance down...right? www.amarillo.com/stories/021408/wts_9602787.shtml"McBroom said "silent fund-raising" is under way. That apparently is going well."

Silent = Secret...which leads me to wonder what you are trying to hide in Canyon...McBroom.
1. We know we can fill Kimbrough with fans...and have proven that.
2. We know that most longtime WT fans want to go back to D1.
3. We know that Amarillo ISD completely renovated the almost identical Dick Bivins Stadium...with new pressbox and new concessions and new restooms and new dressing facilities and handicapped access...all for only $5.7 million...so we know it's much more economical to renovate Kimbrough...than waste money on a smaller stadium.
4. We know that many D2 universities are now using a move to D1...as part of their strategy to increase enrollment and school size.
5. We know that the Amarillo/Canyon metro area...is one of the largest metro areas in the country...without a D1 athletic program.
6. We know that WT basketball made a hell of a lot more money at D1...and had much better attendance in Amarillo...and had 1100 season ticket holders the last season at D1.
7. We know that when WT dropped from D1A to D1AA after the 1981 season...that WT football was ahead of where Boise State was in 1981.
8. Those of us who attended WTAMU/WTSU (unlike you and Merm)...know that the stadium being a mile and a half from the campus...has NO impact at all on student attendance at games...with a 2 minute drive to the stadium...which is in sight of the campus.
Based on those facts...we know something other than athletics...is behind your wanting to downsize WT football into a smaller stadium...and most likely forever lock WTAMU into D2.
Silence = Secrecy = Possibly trying to hide something.
So what is the silent secrecy about?
Mark my words Mike....the silent secrecy stuff is wrong at a public state-owned university...and will be your downfall at WTAMU.
Mike...you are a puppet of the wrong bunch of WT "supporters"...and you need to get rid of any silent secrecy crap.
Yep...with the silent secrecy...it makes people wonder what you guys are hiding.
If you truly want to build support and expand and grow the WT athletic program...you need to learn about the words OPEN and PUBLIC.

Just want to say...that I support this WTAMU facilities project...up to the point...where a new and SMALLER football stadium is mentioned...which I believe is a mistake...and a waste of money. If AISD hadn't pulled off a massive and relatively economical renovation of an almost identical stadium...you might have stood a chance of convincing people we needed to replace Kimbrough...but the smaller bit never stood a chance. And I have serious issues with the silent and non-public approach to this project...where we still don't have an official press release from the school...and where public and alumni fund-raising participation is not being encouraged from the start. It's pretty obvious that you guys thought you could sneak this in....because you know the general public and alumni will not approve of replacing Kimbrough with a smaller stadium. Also...I sat by and watched how WT and Amarillo were supposed to get a 15.000 seat basketball and concert arena...that eventually turned out smaller than the Civic Center...with no outside funding help and absolutely no fundraising effort...and waited years to get a corporate sponsor...when that should have happened before construction. This current project...that we still have almost no information on...needs to be turned around...into a public and alumni effort...with a renovation of Kimbrough as the centerpiece.
Get an Amarillo public and alumni effort to renovate Kimbrough...and you'll likely build enough public interest and good-will...that we might find we actually need to add seats to Kimbrough. The silent and smaller stadium parts of this need to go away.

OK. I didn't grow up here locally, but I remember an AC and a WT which was not affiliated with TAMU at the time. I know some of you folks are passionate about what happens to your local collegiate education systems. I have not kept up with or am privy to the goings on concerning said academic institutions. However, I do agree with west-texan. The way west-texan feels about WTAMU, I can compare it to the music scene. I know I'm going way off track, but it seems like the powers that be want to prevent Amarillo/The Panhandle from being competitive with other cities in Texas. Is it ignorance? It is politics? Is it fear, and if so, why? It seems like no one in this area wants to improve or see others improve anything locally. (I do not hold anyone in this website accountable because everyone here states their opinions, etc.) That's what forums are for. You can be anonymous and speak up. Does anybody in Amarillo really do that in a public setting? I LOVE living here but some things need to be addressed or changed.......... P.S. I'm surprised that petiepanzer hasn't thrown his 2 cents in......

Sure it's very friendly trash-talking from an ACU fan...and the score is ridiculous... But this opposing fan is paying recognition to the fact that WT can cram 25,000 fans into a stadium seating 20,000. That right there...is one more reason that it is STUPID that a small group of people are trying to push for WT football to move to a small stadium. The WT alumni and students and the people of Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle need to rise up...and put an end to the dumb small stadium crap. It's going to be a fight...because the wrong group of people has bought off the Amarillo Globe News...and now appear to have control of what is written about WT...so only their slanted and misguided point gets across to the public. True objective and independent sports journalism no longer exists at the Globe News.

Ok merm....simple and direct questions for you. Why will none of the bunch trying to push WTAMU Buff football into a smaller stadium...ever say in public that they support a larger WTAMU student enrollment? It would sure seem to everyone else...that if you don't support enrollment growth at WTAMU...then you are against WT...right? Why do none of your bunch support growth at WT? Why do you not support enrollment growth at WT...which has not grown in size since 1971? Why does your bunch want to keep WT small? Seems to everyone else that if you are FOR WT...your bunch would come out in public...and say that you want WTAMU to grow...and become a larger university. Texas Tech drives Lubbock's economy...and a larger WTAMU would have numerous economic and social benefits for the Amarillo area. Please respond to west.texan@yahoo.com...and if you like...I'll keep your response private and between us. Come on merm...I'd really like to know what's up with your bunch and the WT lack of enrollment growth issue.
