When I went down to Cafe Tihn Nho, I was surprised to see that there was a African restaurant in the old Salvadorian place. I'm talking about the furthest restaurant down Amarillo Blvd. I challange someone to eat there and give a report-- Mustakister?

As Gus says in Lonesome Dove, "You go up there and clear out all the indians, get a nice little fire in the fireplace, then Jake and I will gather up a heard."

I see a lot of African immigrant around the Evergreen apartment in Eastridge. They are comming as reffugee just like all the Laos people living here in Amarillo. Make sense as the get established they will start to open some resturaunt. Personaly I am glad to see some new flaovors. We just can't eat steak and tacos around here. Maybe I try it.

Can anyone give better directions than "where the old Salvadorian place used to be"? I don't know where Cafe Tihn Nho is located, so that doesn't really help either.

For both, drive all the way out east on the Blvd. A little past Eastern St and Eastridge Lanes, both the restaurants are on the left. The Pho place as in the stripmall behind the thai place (Thai town, I think) and the African restaurant is the other side of Bangkok. If you go under the train underpass, you've gone too far.

Its called the The African Safari and it is operated by Somalian immigrants. I've eaten there once. The menu had the name of a restaurant in Ohio or Missouri or something like that. The waitress didn't speak much English but apparently most of the items on the menu were not available.
I had goat with a rice dish. The goat was very dry but the rice which was cooked with some finely chopped vegetables and spices was very good.
In spite of the language difference the service was very good.
I will try it again.
I miss the El Salvadorian that was in that building. It is in the 5900 Block of Amarillo Blvd E.
An amusing part of my visit to that restaurant was trying to communicate to the waitress that I wanted some of the fried bread the man at the next table was having. She brought me some condiments not understanding what i wanted. The man held up the bread and said "tortilla", we all smiled and noddes and the waitress brought me bread.
Unless it closed recently there is another African restaurant in the same strip mall as Cafe Tihn Nho just West of it and about 50 yards East of Thai House. 5600 block of Amarillo Blvd. East. The sign says Lucky's. That is the name of the store that was there before the restaurant. I don't know the name of the restaurant.
Our waiter was the owner, a Somalian immigrant who spoke good English and was very cordia and l friendly. The only thing they were serving was chicken with rice or goat with rice. I had the goat and it was also dry but the rice was very good. He said they sometimes had a more varied menu. They do not have a printed menu .I will probably try it again.
At both the restaurants the portions were fairly large and the cost was $7-$8.

How do you know for sure that it was goat?
