I have some questions that I would love to have answered.
Hubby and I are trying to decide if we should take the job offer to move halfway across the states... or stay here.

Weigh the pros and cons...money wise, family wise, do you want to move?, etc. It's impossible to tell you what is best without knowing your family and what the move would mean to you.

I do not think you should leave. Amarillo is the greatest city. I owe everything I have to opportunity I found here. If you ask realestate agent of course they will say move so the get commision on your house. These people can not be trust. There is no other city in Texas better Amarillo.

I have to agree.
Don't trust anyone who is going to make money because you moved.
The realtor will tell you to move...because they want the commission on selling your house.
No matter what price you get for your house...the realtor will make money from the commission.
Again...don't trust anyone who stands to make money if you move.
The way the economy is going into a recession...it's best to stay put...unless the job is a sure thing for a lot more money.
In times like this...you don't want to move for just a little bit more money...and then maybe have the job not work out for some reason.

Oh yes we want to move. We thought that we were only going to be here for a year, but come September.. it will be 5 years that we have been here.
It would mean that we would be further from family, but they aren't really close (distance wise) right now.
Real estate agent wouldn't get a commission till our house sold, I am curious what kind a market it is right now. Seems that we (Amarillo) are currently in a buyers market.
Job is a sure thing, is an area where the cost of living is less. Right now 4% pay raise is being negotiated.
We aren't happy here, haven't been since we have been here. This would provide a way to see another part of the US.
Any area that we could possible move to for a lot more money, the pay would increase a significant amount, but not enough to keep up with higher costs. (rent or house payment, taxes..etc)
Basically this is our chance to get out of here.
Is it our only chance? No Will there be other chances? Yes new jobs are posted every Tuesday We are trying to determine if this is the right time/chance for us.

If you don't like Amarillo I don't see how move halfway across USA is better, My guess that put you in Maybe St. Louis. I not know exactly where you go but must be small city if cost is even lower than here. It will probably be humid and the people probably not as nice.
The house market here is balaced right now. Nice house in good shape under about $150K on SW still sell guick but maybe not like last year. Last year it seem that the smaller house in SW was very hot but now I hear bigger house is picking up and in more demand. Tradewind and surrounded area getting tough because forecloser. Also appears that newer home is more demand right now than older one. Basicaly we have about the same demand as last year but people opting for slightly larger home and newer, probably from job like Bell Helicopter and Oil related. I read Amarillo is in top 10 for price appretiation in the nation right now, although that mainly because every other place price going in toilet.

That says it all. You have an oppurtunity to leave. Take it. Do you want to be here five years from now regretting that you didn't get out when you had a chance. If it doesn't work out you can find another opportunity and at least you are away from the place were you weren't happy. Life is to short to waste it being miserable.

Karen...I know it's not perfect around here...
But I'm curious about where you were living before you moved to Amarillo.
Some of the main things I like about this area...are the low humidity and relatively mild winters.

We moved here from Port Hueneme CA. (near Oxnard/Ventura area of Southern CA) Was born and raised in Arlington TX
looks like yall will have to put up with me for a little while longer. The job isn't a "career progression" for hubby. We will move, just not at this chance.
Habiba- nope. not st. louis area.

From reading your posts I have a feeling you wouldn't be happy there either. There would have to be a lot more in for me than a 4% pay raise, there would have to be some more compelling reasons than another location might make you happier.
I moved here from over 1,000 miles away. I met a wonderful woman here and got married and have been living quite contentedly for over 8 years now. When I was looking at moving here, aside from a substantial leap forward in my career, the factors that decided it for me was low humidity, a four season climate and no state income tax.
Attitude is everything, it's all in what you make it.
