I found out that it is closing. So, if you like it, you better get in there.

I talked to the owner. They aren't closing the business, just looking for a new location!

That building has seen several restaurants come and go.
Back in like the early to mid 70's...it was a place called Goodner's Steak Ranch.
I think Catfish Shack has been there the longest of any tenant.
I bet they've been there about 15 years...and I hope they stay in the west part of town.

I don't know the circumstances...
But I'm having trouble picturing an empty building in west Amarillo...
That is in a better location...than where Catfish Shack is right now.

Fat Cat's is great--we've had it catered several times for meetings, and it is by far the best catfish in Amarillo. Very fresh, the owner catches them and serves up whole filets. Serves it with a tabasco/hot wing sauce, nice change from tartar! However, I have not eaten at the establisment to check out the atmosphere yet . . . but with food this good, I'm sure it'll be worth the trip!

Phone book says 1309 N. Fillmore... What is Fat Cat's like...for food and atmosphere? Went there just the other day, and they'd completed the addition to include a larger dining room. Nothing fancy, but still a bit nicer than what they had. Of course-- you wouldn't look out of place in a stained half-shirt and flip-flops. The friend that I took there exclaimed that it was some of the best catfish he'd had. I agree-- they season their cornmeal-breading so well. I was feeling adventurous and ordered the fried frog legs, but they were out. Maybe next time.
