If you go down to Polk St at night...
Beware of vehicle towing in the big parking lot on the NE corner of 7th and Polk.
The sign says Private Parking...and the lot owner sells spaces for people working weekdays downtown.
But tonight was the first night I've ever seen them bothering people for parking there after hours.
I've never parked in that lot...and we parked curbside on Taylor tonight.
They had 3 trucks going at once...and were being agressive about it.
It's just a flat piece of asphalt at night...on the weekend...so the general consensus was that the lot owner is just trying to be mean about it.
They're trying to push downtown business...and the 7th to 8th block of Polk isn't really good for anything else...so it's like someone has a beef with the bars/clubs/restaurants in that area.

The owner of the property has a right to have the cars towed if they are parking there without permission. Isn't there a sign to that effect?
The tow truck drivers were probably wanting to get finished before the owners came back to avoid any confrontation.

;D Gee that downtown revitalization plan/fantasy is off to a great start... fighting with homeless for sidewalk space and cars being towed away because parking is an issue down there.
I can see it now
"sorry Mister Out of Town Visitor, they towed your rental car because you parked it in the wrong lot. Oh, your wallet? Probably lifted by the homeless guy that brushed passed you a minute ago. WELCOME to AMARILLO! Come back soon!"

The tow truck drivers were probably wanting to get finished before the owners came back to avoid any confrontation. That parking lot is owned by a guy who sells spaces to people who work downtown on weekdays. The people who park in that lot on weekdays...are office workers...who are not there at night. No reason to be towing after midnight...on a Friday night... Especially when they've been letting bar/club/restaurant crowd park there for several years at night. But there was no towing at all Saturday night when I was around... So people were speculating if the Friday night stuff was the towing guys trying to make money...and the lot owner may have not been involved Friday. The people paying money to park that lot are not around at night on the weekends...and the lot clears out when the clubs and restaurants close at night. We'll have to see this next weekend...because I bet the owners of the nightspots down there...will complain to the lot owner about any towing. I think the problem may be that Amarillo has too many towing businesses... And probably not enough real legitimate wrecker work to keep everyone going... so the sleazy towing places...have to make their money off people who go to clubs on the weekends.

Big thing I saw that pissed me off...when I down there Saturday night.
Was that a young lady stumbled and fell on the curb in front of the Crushes wine bar place...
And a bunch of dumb guys just stood around doing nothing at all.
I was the only person who went out there...to check on her...and help her back up.
I watch people a lot...but other people need to also start paying attention to what goes on...right in front of them...because I wonder what else they would ignore.

Do you even have to prove ownership of the property to the towing companies? Surely you would, or at least make prior arrangements with them before any towing would be done. Otherwise, any yahoo or prankster could call T-Miller and have the cars removed. If I owned that lot, I would be charging people to park there 24/7. Also, A&B Towing has shut down operations in Amarillo, so there's one less towing company around now.

They have the same mentality of the people that just stood around and watched after that 78 year old man that was run over while crossing the street in Hartford, CT not too long ago. It's happening all over the place...

They were jerks unless she makes a habit of doing that kind of stuff... then maybe they were tired of babysitting her. But that was very nice of you to check on her. Guess chivalry is not dead....
