Week Six High School Football

Although some teams have already started district games, most everyone is playing in district this week. A couple of games could be important to the playoff outcome this early in the schedule. One or two may decide who stays out of the cellar. All are important to the young men and their coaches. Good luck and good health to the participates.

Here we go....

Lubbock - Tascosa...Rebs will lasso the Westerners.

Amarillo High - Lubbock Monterey...Coach Morton has the Sandies figured out. The Plainsmen win in what should be a very good game.

Coronado - Midland....The Midland-Odessa schools have something the Lubbock-Amarillo schools don't have...numbers. This usually means more talent from which to pick. Coronado is good but Midland is a little better.

Palo Duro - Caprock...Everyone east of Polk Street will probably be at this one. It could be good. I'm thinking the 'Rock has something to prove after last week. Caprock wins a close one.

Randall - Pampa...The Raiders will have their way with the Harvesters.

Canyon - Dumas...Dumas' program is on the way up...but not up to beating the Eagles. Canyon notches a district win.

Hereford - Abilene Cooper...The Herd begins the long road through district...literally. The UIL moves in mysterious ways. Gotta give the nod to Cooper on this one.

Frenship - Big Spring...This game is different than usual. It will mean something in the district race. Frenship has the players and the experience to win it.

Lubbock Cooper - Dalhart...Over a 400 mile round trip for this one....too bad they don't ride those yellow dogs we had to...
This could be an important game in the district race. Dalhart finds a way.

Perryton - Lubbock Estacado...another yellow dog trip...does the UIL ever look at a map? The Rangers all the way on this one.

Borger - Levelland...He who wins escapes the cellar. Levelland escapes.

Fritch - Bushland...Fritch is some of the better district competition Bushland will defeat this year.

Panhandle - River Road...could be a good one and an important one. Panhandle's record and stats look good...however after Sunray, who have they played. The Purple and Gold wins...of Panhandle.

Highland Park - Spearman...another game to avoid dead a$$ last in district. HP has the horsepower.

Childress - Dimmitt... Childress...next?

Floydada - Muleshoe... Mulshoe...next?

Friona - Tulia...I will go with Friona on this one. This game could mean a playoff spot....I'm serious.

Sunray - Stratford....marquee game. Important playoff implications...throw away the stats and hide the women and children. I will go with the home team in Sam Bass. Stratford in a dandy.

W.T. High - Canadian...W.T. had best phone in their part and stay home....Well, maybe the fall foliage in Canadian will be worth the trip. It's good the Canadian coaches are compassionate men.

W.T. High - Canadian... Canadian. lol -as big a deal as the news made out of the spanking that Canadian gave Peryton in the 1A vs 3A match up sure makes me glad that the Pampa coaches had the sense not to play a game with Canadian. That would of been ugly and talked about for a long time.

I missed four. The Sandies cowboyed up and got her done. I was surprised at Dumas defeating Canyon. Randall had a tussle with Pampa before coming out on top.

banneddad, I had an opportunity to see Canadian defeat a good Abernathy team a few weeks ago. Those boys are tough for a 1A school.

I liked the Sandies.
They have not played up to their potential to me.
They are in a really tough district to have a shot at the playoffs, but still a pretty decent team.

Took a shot in the dark with Sunray. Wasnt that impressed with the Bushland game last week, but that must of been a fluke.

Dumas has a good team this year. Beating Canyon as easily as they did was a suprise. I would of put them 3rd in district behind Randall and Canyon but that is out the window. I think we got lucky to keep Randall as close as we did. We have a tough year ahead of us.

And I mean the whole year - football, basketball, baseball.............

Well, I said if we turned the ball over like we had earlier in the season we would not do very well...4 turnovers.....We had 2 interceptions in our first 4 offensive plays of the game deep in Stratford territory. On our 4th possession we drove to the Elks 10 and fumble the football ...they pick it up and run it 88 yards for the TD.

AND THEN......on our first offensive play of the 2nd half...we fumble it to them again..... can't compete in many games doing that

Gripey, I thought the game with Stratford and Sunray would be closer and it would have been without the turnovers. Sad that had to happen, but it is part of the game. I think Sunray will be in the playoffs and will be a strong contender.

Canadian will be a crowded place Friday.
