Wow, already at the last week of the regular season. Can't believe it is here.
I'm going to give a couple of traditional games a try and then games that have direct bearing on the playoffs. Feel free to make additional predictions.
Lubbock High - Amarillo High...how many years does this one go back? I have read about teams and fans riding the train between Lubbock and Amarillo for the game. This is one of the more traditional games in the Panhandle. My nod goes to the Sandies to send the Westerners home with a loss.
Coronado - Monterey...the Mustangs and Plainsmen are playing for pride and bragging rights this year. I will go with the Mustangs being able to stick out their chests and brag a little bit.
Canyon - Caprock...Randall is in the driver's seat in this district. After that, it is every school for themselves. The odds makers in Vegas could have a ball on who may come out of this district. I have been on the Rock's side the last few games and I am going to stay there. Caprock wins a dandy.
Pampa - Palo Duro...a PD win would likely put them in the playoffs despite a dismal start of the season. I think the Dons will win and go to the playoffs after losing their first seven games.
Dalhart - Perryton...The Rangers have to have this one. I don't think Dalhart will let them have it. Wolves win.
River Road - Sanford-Fritch...simple, the loser stays home. The rest of the district playoff teams wait to see which one wins. Whether the victor is RR or Fritch plays out a different playoff scenario for the other teams....a scheduling nightmare when playoff stadiums for bi-district are at a premium. If the Road wins, they go as big school with Bushland and Panhandle going small school. If Fritch wins, they go as small school and play the team Panhandle would have played under the other scenario. Panhandle will then play the team Bushland would have played and Bushland goes to big school to play Muleshoe. Confused?
So are we.... OK....I'm taking Fritch at home in what should be a really good game.
Naz - Boys Ranch...the Roughriders are getting close to being in the playoffs for the first time ever. A win against Naz would seal that berth. While I would like the Ranch to make the playoffs, it won't be by beating the Naz. The Swifts are just too tough.
Clarendon - Wellington...district championship on the line. Both are undefeated in district, Wellington for the season. Not having an injury report on either team, I am picking Clarendon. Don't ask me why.
Good luck to all the teams....and, thank you for the season.
