I read that Corning will be layingoff about 3,500 people due to lower demand for the specialty glass and the fiber glass. Does anyone know if the Amarillo plant will be included in these layoffs?

Just talked to mom in law and she says that they have been asked to take a 10 week leave with 60% pay. Also asking those over 55 to retire if they can.

It looks like they are going to take out about 250 people. This is to bad as these are real jobs that create value, not just some retail store.

This is to bad as these are real jobs that create value, not just some retail store. Of course you can't explain this to the Buzz David and the AEDC... Because the AEDC actually works to protect the last remaining old family-owned businesses in Amarillo. The AEDC is chosen by the old family business people on the Amarillo City Commission...who were actually bold enough to choose a Ware Family employee from Amarillo National Bank to be on the AEDC board. That's why Amarillo doesn't get any new industry and only gets call centers and retail jobs. The Bell Helicopter deal actually happened before Buzz David took over at the AEDC.

This is very sad, as 250 families are in this mess! What are they going to do? I am sure McDonalds cannot pay them the money they need to be able to pay for the life style they created for themselves. I am betting there will be alot of new houses on the market because of this. What can Amarillo do to create more jobs?
