Lubbock County is now on the road to beer stores outside the city limits. City of Lubbock has sabotaged stores inside the city limits from getting permits until late August. Stores outside the city limits apply and get permits,if approved by TABC,and July could be the beginning of the "beer&wine depot" era that will "shut down the Lubbock Strip" after 50 years. The End Is Near,For The Strip!!

Typical way things happen when voters approve something...
But the real powers who run the town...disapprove of it.
Amarillo is run pretty much the same way.
Progress comes way too slow...or not at all.
The previous Amarillo city manager kept rock concerts out of our civic center for almost 20 years.
When John Ward moved on...we suddenly started getting rock concerts back where they belong.
Do the current strip liquor store owners have any control at city hall?

"Strip" owners actually sued the city because "christian rightwing" attempted to limit size and location of beer&wine/liquor stores. Judge put 90 day hold on store licenses until city changed the restrictions to allow stores anywhere the retail zone allowed. The 30% that voted against referendum were attempting to keep depot stores away from grocery store areas. Judge ordered re-write of zoning and city council will now vote again on zoning. In the meantime county merchants can get their licenses near Shallowater,Slaton, etc. Local grocery stores will get their licenses later this summer.
