There is a new restaurant that has opened in the strip shopping center at 34th and Osage. It is called the Cactus Grill and Bar. Before they opened, they had their menu posted on the door and it was largely different hamburgers with movie star names.
Was that not the name of the restaurant that used to be on I-40 with the huge windmill out front? It seems like they closed that one, saying they were going to concentrate on other ventures, but I can't quite remember how all that went. The liquor license notice was also posted on the door but I didn't recognize the names on it (not that that means anything).

Yep...I think you are right.
I'm not sure why they got out of the business in the first place.
But I bet they wish they had that I-40 location back.
The I-40 spot had unlimited potential...as long as the business was properly managed.
Just look at the cars that Texas Roadhouse has on a good day.

I always felt that whatever the old Cactus Grill was doing, the Coyote Bluff on Grand was doing it better.
I remember liking the burgers, and I thought the names were cute, but we seldom got good service.
That Osage location has lost every restaurant that's gone in: Roadhouse Express, Funtime Pizza, Chop Chop. I agree with WT: the old location was great in comparison, funny that its a natural gas company now. (Or something like that.)

The original Cactus Grill was in what is now the Coyote Bluff Cafe.
They opened a Smokehouse on Paramount then closed the Cactus on Grand and opened new Cactus on Paramount then close and opened Italian Restaurant on Western then closed and opened Cactus then closed and opened steakhouse on 34th then closed and opened Italian Restaurant then Closed and moved to Italian Restaurant on Paramount (or was the Steak house off Western next?)
Eventually they sold the Cactus Grill name and menu to people who owned Calico County who opened the one on the highway. It was never totally successful there. After which original Cactus Grill people opened a Tapas - Sushi - Steak - Italian - Wine Bar place on Paramount.
The original Cactus Grill was a good place, good concept and well loved. Would like to know if the new Cactus Grill is the same people. No mater what else they are fun to watch!

sailorwes: I can't believe you can remember all that. I really liked the original. I liked to watch chef michael cook those burgers. ...from your favorite lurker.

Made my way to the new, new Catus Grill. Is the same menu as original Cactus. Was told by the semi-knowledgeable waitress that one of the old Cactus Grill people opened the place. By deduction, I have concluded that it is one of the people who bought the name and menu from the original owners. Might be more stable than the original owners but not as much fun to watch.
Was OK, had my old stand by Tostada. Will await more reviews.

I've got to wonder which local person or group of owners...
Holds the record for opening and closing the most failed restaurants in Amarillo?
