Building a WT program for freshman has never worked for WT in the last 40 years. Since 1970 at WT...this approach has failed for the following WT coaches: 1. Gene Mayfield 2. Don Davis 3. Steve Graf 4. Morris Stone 5. Stan McGarvey 6. Ronnie Jones WT admin Graf told that no out-of-state player could have a scholarship. Stan McGarvey had success until the admin told him to quit recruiting transfers. >>> They know building with freshmen does not work at WT. But essentially...the powers at WT...or outside of WT... Seem to use the freshman thing as birth control... To keep the WT football program from ever progressing past a certain level. They will let WT football get up to a certain level of success... Then by choice they will knock the football program back down... And make it start over. It's a continuous cycle of boom and bust and success and failure. The cycle is caused by freshmen then transfers then freshmen then transfers. By recruiting freshmen every few years...they keep WT from ever going very far. This change made back in late 2007...is just now starting to pay off with failure for WT. www.amarillo.com/stories/120307/wts_9054465.shtml

This statement in the article by Colby Carthel in 2007:
Means that future WT offensive players back in 2007...may not be any good.
It sure looks that way from last night against Central Oklahoma in 2009.
**********************************************
Paying attention to what Colby said 2 years ago...
We should have expected the WT offensive collapse.
If these guys were no good 2 years ago against the defense...
Why would they be much better now?
Especially since most of them have very little game experience.
**********************************************
Then combine that with WT offensive coaches that have diminished since Lee Hays left.
And you have a prescription for the failure that happened against UCO.
Then combine that with NO effort to replace a dominating WT player like Kolo.
Then combine that with a quarterback coach with less skill than Ryan Leaf.
**********************************************
Believe me...the WT small stadium wishers were probably high-fiving last night.

I hope they can come back and prove me completely wrong.
But given the crappy junior high performance by WT's offense against UCO.
It's not surprising that these crappy 2009 offensive players were so bad 2 years ago.
That they actually made Colby's crappy defense look good in 2007.
After playing UCO...looks like these guys were crap 2 years ago...and may still be crap.

Other than losing and holding the WT football program back... This type of recruiting has never accomplished anything in the last 40 years at WT. **************************************************** But when WT recruits nationwide...WT gets a lot more money and exposure from football. >>>> WT football was doing a lot more for the school when Joe Kerbel was recruiting nationally. **************************************************** With freshman only recruiting... WT short-changes itself and everyone else with losing... Just to satisfy a small minority of people who only want freshman to be recruited. **************************************************** WT needs to kick out the good ol' boy network... And quit holding WT football back from going onward and upward. **************************************************** The good ol' boy freshmen-only bunch of pseudo-boosters screws WT and the alumni and fans. Go look at the transfers on the Grand Valley and Pitt State rosters.
