ClevverMovies June 13, 2009 Guy Ritchie directs Robert Downey Jr, Rachel McAdams and Jude Law in the revival of an old classic just in time for Christmas 2009, Sherlock Holmes. When legendary detective Holmes and his assistant Watson are pitted against a threat to the very existance of Great Britain itself, the larger than life figures will engage in an explosive battle of wits. Check out the trailer. So is this the straight goods or a red herring? Early reports say it bears as much resemblance to the original Conan Doyle as a copy of Spawn, but Robert Downey Jr. looks to make a great Holmes. Lots of negative comments about this already on the the YouTube website.
Might be an entertaining movie.
But for any of us who have read several of the real Sherlock Holmes books...
This is not the Sherlock Holmes written about by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
In the books...Holmes is a tall intelligent guy who dresses rather neatly.
His apartment mate...Dr. Watson is the same way...and maybe even neater than Holmes.
From the trailer...Downey looks like he is trying to play Holmes as a shorter guy...
Who has a scruff street-bum beard...whereas Holmes in the books is a clean-shaven guy.
Don't know on this one.
If you've read the books...this may movie offend you a bit.
Also...it looks like they added a womanizing quality to Holmes that may work in a movie...
But it definitely was not in the books.
Holmes was sort of a CSI guy at the turn of the century.
