TAMUk: 25 transfers on roster is why they are winning again. Freshmen only recruiting bombed out and they were getting kicked around. So they go back to recruiting a bunch of transfers...and now they are suddenly back to winning. Even their quarterback Garza is a transfer player. This is exactly the same way that Carthel was able to go instantly to winning after Ronnie Jones. www.javelinaathletics.com/roster.cfm?sp=FOOT

On offense, 4 of the starters are transfers. 4 linemen and 3 WR were HS signees. The transfers are:
QB Billy Garza (Illinois) but played HS in area RB Connell Davis (Missouri) but played HS in area WR E J LeBlanc (Tx St/Blinn) OL Trent Perkins (Okla St) but played HS in area
On defense, 3 of the starters are transfers. All 4 linemen, both LBs, a CB and a safety were HS signees. The transfers are:
Rov - John Reeves (Henderson State) a D2 school CB - Eric John (Minnesota Crookston) a D2 school FS - Corey Robertson (North Iowa CC, but signed w/ Iowa out of HS)
Backups on offense: 7 were HS signees; 4 transfers: QB - Nat Poppell (U Mary) D2 school RB - Fred Winborn (Cali Juco) TE - Larod Roberson (Blinn JC) OL - Michael Mosmeyer (Navarro JC)
Backups on defense: 6 were HS signees; 5 transfers: DL - Aaron Buckley (A&M - RS never played for Aggies) played HS in area DL - Bo Jones (Kilgore JC) DL - Chester Swanson (Arkansas - never played for Razorbacks) DB - Mardrick Johnson (East Texas Baptist) D3 school DB - Marc Kinney (Cisco JC) signed w/ TAMK out of HS, went to JC ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WT starts just as many transfers on offense and defense as TAMUK does.
Someone asked the question on the D2 board - Is it a coincidence that all of Ronnie Jones' recruits are gone and WT is now struggling?

www.amarillo.com/stories/091505/wts_2791382.shtmlI hate to have to disagree with you on why Carthel won...and Jones lost at WT. The facts tend to say that transfer players were the big change from Jones to Carthel. And it's interesting that the winning at WT didn't start until Carthel brought in transfer guys. Also... It is a fact that WT has not had a winning season in the last 40 years by recruiting only freshmen. And the WT record this season sure seems to show that this time is not going to be any different. I personally don't care where a WT player comes from... But if a player doesn't win...then you go with the way that is proven to win at WT. And freshmen only recruiting has failed for at least 6 or 7 WT coaches since the early 70's. What makes you think this time will be any different for WT? If Carthel had recruited transfers...WT would be in the top ten in the country now. If Carthel only kept 1/4 of the Jones guys...that's not very many guys. If I remember right...most of Carthel's linemen and receivers and D-backs were transfers. We are losing right now...because they quit recruiting transfers.

Bring in the transfers and WT always wins. Bring in the freshmen and WT always loses. This losing season is just another attempt to get WT football down-sized into a smaller stadium. And the smaller stadium push is just another attempt to keep WT football from ever going back up to D1. And that is just another attempt by Canyon to keep WT small and limit the number of WT students. And Canyon loves WT...just as long as WT stays on its corner of town...and does not get any bigger. This losing season is no accident...and it was planned about 2 years in advance. www.amarillo.com/stories/120307/wts_9054465.shtmlamarillotalk.proboards.com/index.....lay&thread=3198www.amarillo.com/stories/020903/wts_wt020903-3.shtmlFreshmen only recruiting has not produced a winning season at WT in the last 40 years. And the Keep WT Small Gang knows that.

Even page 68 in the new WT athletics book points out... That too much freshmen recruiting means losing at WT. >>> Those who ignore history...are doomed to repeat history. Freshmen recruiting has not worked at WT in at least the last 40 years. Just think how much football revenue WT is losing this season by having a mostly empty stadium. >>> People don't care to watch a bunch of freshmen and sophomores losing games. issuu.com/thebooksmithgroup/docs/wtamu_final_lo_nocrops_10-01-08_v40
