I just read a story in the Borger News Herald that construction has started on a Bennigan's.
It's going to be a smaller version of the original Bennigan's, and just might work in smaller communities.
The people in Borger are very excited about getting new restaurants & motels being built in town!

Went by the Bennigan's in Borger today and it looks like they are open or maybe training the staff. Lots of cars there anyway.

Where is this restaurant in Borger? I have to wonder if it's the same owners in Borger who tried to restart Bennigan's in Amarillo. For some odd reason in Amarillo they gave up very quickly on Bennigan's. And now they are converting the old Bennigan's building to a Hayashi Japanese Steakhouse. Anyone know if this is from the same owners in Amarillo? I took these pictures last Friday. It still said Bennigan's on the west side and Hayashi on the east side.

No, supposedly its owned by the same guy who recently opened the Holiday Inn Express there. The restaurant is on HWY 136 in the cloverleaf or what ever they call it. Just past the little shopping center where Hastings is in the curve you take to get on Cedar St.

Anything left in the shopping center out east where K-Mart and Bealls and Penney's used to be?
When that was going strong in Borger...there were 2 or 3 restaurants in that area.
They used to have a Mr Gattis and a Bonanza out there.
And that's where Hastings was before they moved.

Penny's is still out there along with a Hallmark store. Long Johns and Papa J's are the only restaurants. I am really surprised that Penny's stays out there. Seems like they would do better out near the Wal Mart.

I think the east side shopping center in Borger was hurt when Phillips shut down their company town.
And a lot of people from the old town of "Phillips" moved out west between Borger and Buena Vista.
But it's interesting how Penney's stuck with that shopping center
while Beall's and K-Mart corporate gave up on the location.
And from what my parents have said...they closed that K-Mart not long after expanding it a bit.
Borger was a really cool place to go back in the 70's...when they still had all the stores on Main St.
They had an awesome old style dime store on Main St. with a wooden floor and soda fountain in back.
Borger still had Main St. clothing stores like 10 years after Amarillo's downtown stores had faded out.

Bennigan's opened a few weeks ago (May 3rd). It's a nice place, and great for Borger! It can hold up to 230 people. It has a few kinks to work out like any new restaurant, but it will be a really nice addition to the city.

I drove through Borger last Thursday afternoon. And stopped to grab a few quick live on-location pics of the new Bennigan's.

And next time I go through Borger, I need to grab some pics of the new funky red domed building going up just west of Bennigan's.

I was in Borger last weekend, and finally went to the new Bennigans. It was nice, but the interior surprised me a bit. It's not like the old Bennigans restaurants. It's wide open, and you can see all the way across inside the building.
The service was good, and the food was very tasty! The menu isn't that large, but what they offered really did taste good.
And speaking of that odd red dome going up down the street (across from the Wal Mart), I hear it's going to be a church. The Church of God is planning on adding one or two more of those domes to complete their new building. It's going to look really odd! It doesn't seem to fit into that area of town at all. Where was the planning & zoning folks when this wierd thing was being approved?

My favorite restaurants are not wide open, but I definitely need to try the food when I'm in Borger.
I was just passing through and didn't even have time to look in.
And next time we're on the phone I'll ask my parents if they have been there.
