According to a news release from Texas Tech, the university recently received a complaint from a player and his parents regarding Red Raider Head Football Coach Mike Leach’s treatment of the athlete after an injury.
"At Texas Tech all such complaints are considered as serious matters, and as a result, an investigation of the incident is underway," according to the release. "Until the investigation is complete, Texas Tech University is suspending coach Leach from all duties as Head Football Coach effective immediately. The investigation into this matter will continue in a thorough and fair manner."
Coach Ruffin McNeill will assume duties as interim head coach and will coach the team during the Alamo Bowl.
The decision to take these actions was made in consultation with the Texas Tech president, and the Texas Tech System Chancellor Kent Hance, and the Board of Regents chairman and vice chairman.
Because this is a personnel matter no further comment will be forthcoming, the release stated.

Facebook group that is steadily growing in number of members. I'm sure the Alamo Bowl officials would love to slam-dunk Craig James and son. And Tech AD Gerald Myers may have gotten Tech banned from San Antonio in the future. www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=223038539345

The following is a letter someone I know, wrote to Texas Tech Dear Sir, I am a Texas Tech Alumni. I have been a red raider since I can remember. In fact, I often state to others that I bleed Red and Black. I am writing to you today as I am sure that many other alumni are doing.
I am appalled at the way that the athletic department is handling this investigation. In this great nation of ours, we have a system where one is innocent until proven guilty. That is not the case here. Texas Tech Athletic department has been the judge and jury. What I find interesting is that Mike Leach was the only one found guilty. And it was only after Craig James abused his power. I am sure that the allegations came with some sort of threat, such as starting a smear campaign on national television. You have to remember that Craig James has a history of abuse of power. Look at his record while at SMU. Where were the other coaches during this time that Adam James was alledgedy locked in an "electrical closet". They had to know that he was there. And what about the players? They had to know too. Why stop at Mike Leach? Why not just suspend the entire team? Do you see how ridiculous this is?
What was the electrical closet that he was supposedly locked in? Any room can be deemed as an "electrical closet" as long as there are outlets or any kind of electrical equipment, such as press equipment, somewhere in the room. Perception is the key there.
Being in the medical field, I understand why Coach Leach would have the young man lay down in a dark room with a trainer close by. The standard treatment for a concussion is to minimize the stimulation to the brain. Most people need to be in a dark room because of the severe headache that often accompanies a concussion. As for being in the electrical room with a stationary bike, I guess Mr. James didnt feel that his son should maintain adequate physical fitness. In fact, I am a little confused as to what level of activity that they wanted their son to participate in.
I do hope that this investigation is completed before the Alamo Bowl and that Coach Leach can return to his rightful place as the great Coach for the awesome red raiders. If this causes Coach Leach to look elsewhere for employment, then I will not be able to continue to support a school that has the standards that have been portrayed the last few days. I am sure that I am not alone. Just check out the groups on facebook that are in support of Coach Leach.
Sincerely, name omitted Red Raider Fan!

This one may get interesting before it is over. Egos have caused this one to get out of hand. I feel sorry for the team.

The thing Tech seems to be forgetting is that the fans love Mike Leach. We like his unconventional attitude and the fact that he knows how to get results. This is getting very interesting.

TEXAS MONTHLY, EXTRA Pirate Under Attack. Avast, Ye Swabs! If Texas Tech fires Leach, there will be a mushroom cloud over Lubbock for thousands of miles and a likely revolt of Tech fans, alums, and former players. by S. C. Gwynne As anyone who knows anything about Texas Tech football can tell you, there is something odd about yesterday’s suspension of football coach Mike Leach because of a complaint that he mistreated a third-string receiver named Adam James, who happens to be the son of football commentator and former SMU star Craig James. For one thing, Leach has never been known to violate any NCAA rules on player treatment, as a wave of former players who went public this week have attested. He can certainly be tough......... Obama Syndrome: Don't worry about your job...and do the exact opposite of the public wants. We all need to bomb Governor Perry with requests to have Kent Hance fired. Most schools would have defended the coach over a trivial thing like this. But it was obvious from the start that Hance and Myers were trying to get rid of Leach. Hance and Gerald Myers have been burning over Leach's contract disagreement a while back. **************************************************** I bet Tech will have at least a 5K drop in number of students next fall. And I bet football attendance drops by at least 15K. **************************************************** For WT folks this will bring back memories of the firings of winning coaches Joe Kerbel and Bill Kelly. I hope Leach hires some Dallas attorneys and takes Tech to the cleaners. And Jesse "Craig" James can kiss my azz. Time to boycott every game James broadcast for the Extremely Sensitive Parents Network. www.myfoxlubbock.com/content/news/special/story/leach-fired/c6RRhrS4rEKFUoBcE8UM6A.cspx
