My wife brought up a great point last night about our city. She asked why do we as a city seem to keep ourselves down.
She brought up the fact we can not attract good concerts due to older facilities like the civic center. She argued to me that we do downtown revitalizing but all we have are after hours bars it seems.
She wants something for families like a newer baseball facility. Updated civic center etc.
What do you all think? What would you like to see?

I don't see any room downtown for a new baseball stadium.
West of the medical center off I-40 would be a good location for that.
And you would have plenty of room there for a park and picnic areas for families.
But a big new basketball and hockey and arena football coliseum would be best for downtown.
Then we could stand a chance of getting big concerts that have been going to Lubbock.
And you could probably use some of the existing parking areas for the Civic Center.
A new baseball stadium needs open spaces, but a new indoor arena would be great downtown.

The big fish want to keep the town small, they fear if we grow bigger we will see how small they really were all along.

The big fish want to keep the town small, they fear if we grow bigger we will see how small they really were all along. Yep...you understand the situation. To get elected to the city commission you must meet at least 1 of the requirements: 1. Have old family money. 2. Or be an employee of a an old rich Amarillo family. And the city commission picks the board members of the AEDC. And to be considered for the AEDC board you must: 1. Have old family money. 2. Or be an employee of an old rich Amarillo family. And the goal of the city commission and AEDC is: To make sure no one new gets more money or power than the old rich Amarillo families. Amarillo is run by a mafia-cartel-oligarchy of the old rich Amarillo establishment.

Don't sell the free market system short. We have what we have because that is the strength of the market here. Not every city can be Phoenix or Las Vegas, only if it promotes itself properly. Unless something, like another major employer comes to the area, Amarillo's population will support what we have now. Lubbock is home to a major university so will always be a center for cultural events. I think that promoting and growing WTAMU would be a way out of the wilderness for Amarillo.
