Everybody is starting out this week with dreams of playing into December. Each week some will realize that dream may not materialize.
BUT, it's high school football Texas style...if you're not living it on a Friday night, you're talking about during the week....let's start talkin'
Here is a number of fearless predictions. Feel free to post your picks. Add some games you feel should be considered. Let's have fun.
Amarillo High - Midland…AHS travels to white collar oil country to challenge the Midland Bulldogs. New coach, new winged-T offense for the Sandies won't quite handle it. Midland by 10
Midland finds an offense and wins, 20-6
Tascosa - Palo Duro…the Don's dynamic duo of Smash and Dash run wild. Dons do it
Oops....Tascosa 15 - Palo Duro 10...Dons didn't do it.
Lubbock - Canyon…the Eagles come out the gates flying high. Fly right by the Westerners.
Eagles 29 - Westerners 7
Coronado - Frenship…the Mustangs have a Tiger by the tail and wish they could let go. Frenship takes the opener.
Frenship 30 - Coronado 15
Monterey - Hereford…Plainsmen corral the Herd.
Oops....Hereford 21 - Plainsmen 20....well it was close.
Borger - Randall…Borger's got something going, not sure about Randall. Bulldogs bite Raiders.
Oops....Randall Raiders 35 - Borger Bulldog's 28...not a bad game.
Pampa - Iowa Park…I'm takin' th' Harvester but not with a great deal of enthusiasm.
Oops....Iowa Park 31 - Pampa 14...see why I wasn't enthused.
Perryton - Dumas…Demons do it.
Dumas 38 - Perryton 17...Demons did it.
Dalhart - Sanford Fritch…Dalhart has a lot of hype plus a new football field. With that said, Fritch wins.
Oops....Dalhart 42 - Sanford Fritch nil...how could I be so wrong?
Levelland - Caprock…Levelland always starts the season undefeated but usually quickly changes that. They hold to that tradition and the Horns passing game lights'em up.
Caprock 56 - Levelland 13....yup, the Rock lit it up.
Lubbock Cooper - Idalou…could be one of the better games. Cooper is bigger but Idalou may be better. I threw the dart and it landed closer to Idalou which ain't sayin' much since these schools are probably less than 20 miles apart.
Oops...Cooper takes an OT. It was one of the better games if you are from Cooper.
Lubbock Estacado - Plainview…Plainview will find out why Estacado is ranked. W goes to Esatacado.
Estacado 48 - Plainview 13
Shallowater - Muleshoe…the UIL bumped Shallowater up to 3A but just barely. Muleshoe bumps Shallowater again and takes the W home.
Muleshoe, a 27 - 13 bump to Shallowater.
Littlefield - Brownfield…Littlefield is a 2A state ranked power house. Brownfield plays good basketball. The score board will show that Friday.
Littlefield 50 - Brownfield 0...you can already hear the sounds of basketballs being aired up in Brownfield.
Friona - Abernathy…Chiefs slaughter the Antelopes.
Friona 31 - Abernathy 0
Boys Ranch - Wheeler…Rough Riders can't ride the Mustangs. Wheeler throws the Rough Riders in fine fashion.
Oops....Boys Ranch 16 - Wheeler 14
Canadian - River Road…battle of the Wildcats, here's where a pretty good 2A team gets whupped by a darn good 1A team. Wildcats win…un, that's the Canadian Wildcats.
Canadian 44 - River Road 0...that's a pretty good whuppin'
Stratford - Bushland…gonna be a good one. I expect a lot of tickets will be sold. I going with the home team and that's Bushland.
Bushland 30 - Stratford 14...closer game than score indicates. Stratford had 8 turnovers. Hard to beat your grandmother with 8 turnovers. Bushland took advantage of the turnovers like a good team does.
Sunray - Floydada…Sunray's tough…a lot tougher than either Floyd or Ada.
Sunray 27 - Floydada 0...Floyd or Ada could have phoned their part in.
Clarendon - New Deal…another goodie worth the price of admission. Two really good 1A teams going at it. You might consider this one of those benchmark games pointing toward the playoffs. They may get to see each other again. I picking the Lions for the first dance.
New Deal 23 - Clarendon 21...these teams may play again.
Panhandle - Springlake-Earth…to played Thursday at 4:30 in a double-header football kickoff at Dick Bivins. Panthers have dropped down from 2A but are young. Springlake returns experience from a pretty good 09 team. Some have Springlake ranked in the top 20 statewide. No brainer, Springlake wins.
Springlake-Earth 37 - Panhandle 14
Spearman - Nazareth…like to say th' Naz' but I can't. The Lynx of Spearman should take this one.
