I don't know if it was a temporary glitch or what, but, the other day when the light turned green, by the time hubbo applied pressure to the gas pedal to move forward the light turned yellow he had to as he put it "trop on the gas " before it turned red. Because of the money making eye in the pole things you have to anticipate them also keeping eye open for cops, erratic drivers, stresses me out to no end anymore just driving around . Seatbelt don't fit it's choking me to death and wearing a red line in my throat, I'm trying to hold onto that, driving with one hand, playing the anticipate the light game, praying nobody rear ends me and on the look out for cops. I'm wore out. LOL

Lubbock not only has construction going on all the time, but the city has somehow managed to have construction going on on several major streets and highways around town at the same time!

I can't believe no one else has mentioned this.
But you can also get to Amarillo from Canyon by:
1. Driving east on 4th Ave toward I-27 east of Canyon.
2. Cross I-27.
3. Keep driving east.
4. Turn left on Washington Street and drive north into Amarillo.
And it is a much more scenic route that takes you through an offshoot of Palo Duro Canyon.
It takes you right past Camp Don Harrington...the Boy Scout camp in the canyon.

Can't you come up further west and tie in at Soncy, also? Of course that is flatter than the eastern route.

You are right that Soncy goes all the way into the NW corner of Canyon at the W edge of Hunsley Hills.
It's an FM Rd...and some of the signs right at Canyon will say VFW Rd.
And then Coulter hits I-27 going south at McCormick Rd...about 1/2 way to Canyon.
When I first started college at WT...Coulter and Soncy weren't paved all the way south.
For someone from Lubbock...Phantom knows her way around up here.
That means she comes to Amarillo too often! ;D

I was standing in the Canyon United market, telling the cashier guy about how I just moved down hee in April and now they're changing my game plan that I had already mapped out for myself and was proud that I was getting around like a local. Then , they pulled the rug out from under my little butt. Man, overheard my predictament and said "instead of taking McCormick rd over to I-27 you can take Farm rd 2219 too". Then, I told them how coming back on I-27 one day meaning to take Rockwell Rd turn off I somehow missed it then next thing I knew I saw a sign saying Happy Lubbock Yikes ! I was on half tank of gas, rick had my cellphone and I didn't know where in the hell I was going ! Scared to death....took the Happy exit off and thank God , man at gas station, full service to boot it was too, he filled up the tank and said take this road , will take you straight into canyon. I was gonna head back to the interstate and watch for signs till I hit Amarillo, thank God , the man put me on a road that comes up on 23rd St in Canyon, my stomping ground. Never thought I'd be so happy to see 23rd again. LOL Now, coming back on US 60 to get back to Rockwell rd and the subdivisions I see a d**n Hwy. sign announcing in Oct. they're gonna be doing re-paying work on the South Soncy that turns into West Rockwell. wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh have to wait and see if it's the whole South Soncy rd or what's involved there. I'll have a van full of groceries and end up in Ok. I guess.

I've been trying to keep you away from Amarillo. ;D But you seem to be tough and resourceful. And I tried to scare Shark off...but she moved here anyway.

If you have a mortgage, the mortgage company will probably pay the tax bill out of your escrow. Check the bill. It may have a sentence that says you don't owe anything now. W-T, you know you can't keep the ladies away!

Yep, I do come to Amarillo pretty often. I try not too, but the Amarilloans just can't seem to keep me out! If I lived in brown town I would find reasons to leave as often as possible. ;D
