Like nothing I 've never seen before. the ocean on it's best day can't compete with these amarillo winds. I had plans to go out and buy a printer today, no way, if I have a roof that can stay on my house I'm staying in it. I'll never get used to these winds down here I swear to the almighty. I got a hunk of concrete in the bottom of my trash can so it won't blow up the hwy. my idiot neighbor who has been here longer then me never puts nothing but trash in theirs and right now it's blowed over and the bags are fixin' to delight the whole strip. what do the elderly and the little kids do down here ? blow off to Kansas I guess.

already had the dirt hahhah We moved down here on Easter Sun poor Atlas men had to carry up stuff from the st. because the truck was to big for the concrete driveway and we wouldn't let them use it anyway. Carrying bedroom suites, treadmill, etc. What a day ! at that time there was no grass anywhere and the construction mess was still piled up. We had about 70 boxes piled up in the garage till we could afford to build a polebarn. Now, grass is in the front, rest around the house are primarily weeds, but, I'll take 'em instead of dirt. I paid to have sod planted in the front because I used so many brooms they all bent out. dirt and filth blowing in I was near tears everyday. Wanted to hire a girl to help me but the Mexicans wanted 20 an hr. I bucked up and took a stand, bought in the grass and kept sweeping. 2 wks later right in front of the directv man I took a leap on the hearth of the fireplace to tear the plastic off of my new 50 in TV grabbed ahold of the mantle, lost my balance and twisted to the left and hit the hardwood at the feet of the satellite man who was also Mexican. Scared him to death 'ma'am you alright". No, I wasn't alright twisted that left ankle so bad it started swelling like a watermelon, hurt like a MF too. He thought it was broke I could move my toes so figured it wasn't pulled my own self up into a chair and hobbled to the sink ran cold water over it as fast as I could and had to wait for him to leave to drive myself to the clinic, got a cane out of the closet and hit the road to have a Dr. look at it. He went and said "let's get xrays" praise the Lord no break, but tendons stretched ,ligaments all that jazz. I left in wheelchair he wanted to write for a powerful pain medicine and I said "no thank U don't want to be a junky can't afford it" and went home and took Tylenol LOL Believe me folks you don't want a bad sprain. I could go on but just now after 6 mos. can I bend that sucker at the joint at the ankle. So, I'm a pretty tough cookie, but, I still hate these winds !!

Yesterday felt like a day in March. What I dread is having a windy day like that when the temps are in the single digits. I once had to work outside on a day like that and ended up with a Popsicle for a mustache.

We've had worse days than that.
But it was absolutely gorgeous out this afternoon...with very little wind.
I don't think I even notice wind below 15 mph. ;D
And phantom is right about just wait until the dirt blows...before you say the wind really sucks.

Between the wind, the dirt and the stockyards you see why no one want to build any outdoor restaurants here. There was a plan to build an outdoor shopping center at the southwest corner of Hollywood and Soncy a few years ago and I see nothing ever came of it.

I can truly understand that. my husband still swears the Grand Hotel in Michigan on Mackinac Island. Pricey, ritzy place stinks worse then amarillo/canyon. It's a draw. The rooms are expensive and the place is beautiful, etc. but when your sitting in the swank dining room with all your finery on just like Victorian days of old and all you can smell wafting in thru the windows is horse manure , sad...........LOL Horses freely poop and pee all over the place, no cars are allowed on the island. Everything is by horse and carriage. True, some of the horses have bags tied on which help, but, you got stables all around, etc. [/img] Attachments:

The typical West Texas winds are why this sign is held together with bungee cords. ;D
