Took this picture about a month ago. And you can see the optical illusion while driving east out of the Wendy's drive-up. This is at I-40 and Western. The drive-up lane on the south side of Wendy's slopes down and away from the building. And it makes the sign across the street look like they are leaning to the left. Then you wonder what is really level... Because the Toot-N-Totum building and the other gas pump roof don't line up with the signs.

Very easy to see if you are there in person at the Wendy's drive-up window. Assume that the Toot-N-Totum store building is level. 1. Draw a green horizontal line that matches the roof on the store. 2. Draw a yellow vertical line that matches the south side of the store. 3. Copy and paste the same yellow vertical line next to the signs. 4. Then look at the top right side of the Phillips sign and the Taco Bell sign. ;D If you consider the store building to be straight...then the 3 tall signs lean to the left.

I think your camera lens may have a problem....it leans toward the left so then it is liberal. Probably supports ObamaCare......

Are you sure that it wasn't a stiff wind coming in from the east that day?
Livingston, MT sits at the mouth of a canyon where the winds roar out of Yellowstone Park. The town has an ordinance against signs being higher than a set number of feet. I remember reading about McDonalds requesting and getting a variance from the city council and a short while later after the next wind storm their sign appearing to the I-90 traffic as a yellow "W" hanging in the wind.
There are traffic signs along I-90 supported by aluminum I beams that are bent over at 45 degree angles after a particularly ferocious wind storm, and there is an urban legend there that a strong wind once blew a freight train off the tracks.
Speaking of highway signs, here's a joke they tell in Montana: You know how you can tell if it's a North Dakotan driving along I-90? They are the ones whose lips move when they read the highway signs.

If you are facing east then the wind is blowing out of the north.(Look at the power lines to the right of the Taco Bell sign, they are swaying to the south) That means that the signs are level, they are just leaning into the wind.
