Notice there's quite a lot of trains in Canyon always going or coming. Wonder what they're hauling ?

I lived in Canyon for several years while attending college.
And we mostly saw a lot of boxcars.
But also a lot of 2 and 3 deck automobile carriers for new cars.

It is a Myriad of freight. Piggybacks, containers, coal trains, grain trains, ethanol, anhydrous ammonia, oil, gasoline, LPG to name just a few.
The Northern Burlington-Santa Fe tracks are the main tracks between Los Angeles and Chicago. Each day between Amarillo and Canadian at least 80 trains run both directions on the double tracks with some of the trains being 10,000 feet long. That figures to be a train about every 15 minutes.
I farm a farm split by those tracks. When working there, if a train doesn't come by in 20 minutes, the silence is deafening. You wonder if something went wrong.

Time to buy some stock in BNSF railroad. My neighbor is an engineer he tells me the power to weight ratio they usually pull - for a coal train it is about 118 cars and total payload is about 18,000 tons. With 5 locomotives that makes about 22,000 horsepower, or 1-1/4 horsepower per ton. Fascinating.

SJ, I drove by your place today and didn't see you. Of course I didn't slow down either as I was trying to get to Booker and back home. I don't think the Next 9 exits is right.

Midland is about the same distance from me as Amarillo is, but for some reason I rarely go to Midland. W-T thinks I go to Amarillo way to often.

The problem is that Lubbock is way too close to Amarillo. Now if we could just get Phantom to move to Houston. That might slow her Amarillo trips down just a little bit. ;D But if she is going to Booker, she is starting to expand her range..........
