I drove up in the parking lot of the HQ building, and was looking SW toward the dam. You can see old water line on the dam and the north shoreline of the lake. And the base of the intake tower used to sit in pretty deep water. For a size reference, I googled and found that the tower is 266 feet tall. And the dirt road in front of the dam used to be under water.

You could get a much better view driving south on the dam. And from the dam you can see the pipes and pumps that are now used to get water into the tower. But if you notice the vehicles on the highway across the dam. You can see that stopping to take pictures on the 2 lane highway might not be safe.

Sort of a before picture. You can see that the water is already starting to recede off the dam. But the intake tower is still in pretty deep water.

This is sad. I lived in Borger for a year and going boating on Meredith was about the most fun we had.

I'm on well water and it's free but it sucks hahahah need a water softener and a filter, I won't drink the stuff. having somebody to give me an estimate on a softener. sand residue is left in my tub, have to put cup of vinegar in my dishwasher so my dishware isn't too awful spotty, is anyway, but, makes a little difference. Can't wait to get an verdict on the water test. bet it's hard as a rock. Car looks like when washed somebody put dried soapsuds all over it. calcium deposits all around the plumbing fixtures. ice cubes stink, even though filter is on the side by side. uh, oh better call somebody !

No one will say it.
But I really think CRMWA mis-managed the water resource at Lake Meredith.
They should have cut the water consumption from the lake years before they did.
And the middle of the Canadian River channel should have been bulldozed years ago.
To clear out all the silt and brush buildup...so more water could flow into the lake.
That silt and all the brush is just like a sponge that soaks up any water flow.
They tried to kill the salt cedars by spraying them.
When just tearing out the trees and brush would have been more effective.
They did too little too late.
I grew up going to the lake...and it just gets me upset to see it down like this.

The problem is that Ute Lake in New Mexico is holding the water that would flow in the Canadian River to Lake Meredith. Ute Lake is over 90% full, and they aren't required to release water until they hit closer to 100%.
The water authority that manages the Canadian River has done a horrible job of making sure it is allowed to flow into Texas from New Mexico.
