I'm new to Amarillo and the Texas Panhandle. Give me a few idea of things to do here and the best places to eat. I'm looking to meet new people as well, so add me on facebook if you would like. www.facebook.com/april.martin50

I heard about some cafe where they give you a huge hamburger that you may to not pay for if you can eat it as fast as their timer stops.

LOL that's probably the Big Texan restaurent your talking about. It's a 5 lb. steak and all the trimmings.
We always liked their food, but, for some reason the locals never cared much about it.

April, there are a number of places to eat. Amarillo, Texas being in the middle of the cattle feeding industry...over 5 million head on feed....a steak is usually the meal of choice. Shark mentioned the Big Texan, which isn't bad but is usually frequented by tourist with its I-40 location. You also have David's Steakhouse, Country Barn, Saltgrass and one of my favorites....which if your shirt is clean you may be overdressed...Outlaws on East 3rd...but the steaks and atmosphere is true Texan.
Enjoy and welcome to our part of Texas. The saying around here is if you wear out a pair of shoes/boots here, you will never leave.

I haven't been in the Country Barn since but the building looks like they quickly fixed the small fire damage.
And SJ...I think David's Steaks turned into Embers under a new owners.
I must be getting old because I still miss the K-Bob's Steakhouses that we used to have in several towns in this area.

w-t, I think you are right on that name change. Phantom, I think you will like it. Nothing fancy for sure but good food.
I believe there still is a K-Bobs in Dumas. It still has the salad wagon in the middle of the restaurant.
I thought the Country Barn was back in business. I remember when the original Country Barn on far east Amarillo Blvd burned. It was later rebuilt and was for years at I-40 and Lakeside which was a much better location than Amarillo Blvd. Hmmmmmm.

In years past, there were K-Bob's in Guymon and Perryton and Dalhart and Dumas and Borger and Pampa and Amarillo and Plainview and I think Lubbock.
Then we had Western Sizzlin' steakhouses in Amarillo and Lubbock.

yeah, I agree, they were nice places and not to pricey. steak , was right size for me too. 6-8oz. makes hubbo mad when we go out and I concentrate on the bread and baked potato and don't care about the steak. LOL ;D today is our anniversary, guess we'l sit in the car at Sonic during the half price hr.

Went to Lone Star Bar and Grill on the old Claude highway the other night where boots and jeans are the dress code. Been a while since I had been there but it had always been a place for a good steak and a cold beer.
The beer was cold and so was the steak.....
The place had a big crowd and apparently the chief cook and wrangler had to rise above his level of competence to try to meet demand. Think I will let him practice a little before I go back.
