Yesterday I decided to start a news discussion of the day. I was hoping that each day we could discuss newsworthy material from the Amarillo Area. However, as I search online this morning to find something newsworthy in Amarillo, all I find is articles of the VT massacre that occured yesterday. I found this article and it struck me as a strange statement to be making the day of the massacre, so my questions today are: 1. Do you believe that with the information we the public know, the officers and campus officials acted in an appropriate manner following the first shooting? 2. If your child were at VT what would you be doing right now? 3. Do you think that a parent whose child was not directly involved in the shooting should be asking for this? 4. Ultimately, do you think it's right that they be fired for what happened yesterday? www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,266460,00.html (because of the fox news design you will have to copy and paste this url to view it) Tomorrow (hopefully) the news stories will return to the Amarillo Area.

I honestly don't see how they could have locked the campus down after the first shooting... they wouldn't have even known what they were looking for... but we were not there and I feel you can't sit in judgement of how the situation was handled if you don't have ALL the details... I do not go by what the media says...and all we know is what the media says. I would be going to my child just to make sure he/she was ok... and give them a much needed hug. And offer to take them home if they did not feel safe. No.... I do not think ANYONE should be screaming for heads at this point...it is too early to know ALL the facts. No they should not be fired... they could NEVER have predicted this would happen... and it would be detrimental to the institution.... the whole country needs to learn from this and take preventitve measures. Did anyone get fired for 9-11? It is heartbreaking and very tragic.... the media needs to respect that....and quit asking such stupid freaking questions like they tend to do.... I can't even watch the reports now...as it has come to the point it always does with the media... ask stupid questions just to fill air time.
