Here are a number of games to consider. Many are interesting. The 5A schools start the district money games. Ahhh, time for a little football. Here is the list. The last team is the home team.
I will make my picks about Thursday.

OK....have to admit that I don't know much about some of these programs: I knew both the Childress and Stratford coaches...when I was in college at WT. Both are very nice guys...who played football at WT. |

Both are very nice guys...who played football at WT. I know Coach Metcalf, not real well but have watched him coach for years.....heck of a good guy and a heck of a coach! Also, know 2 of his assistants very well. I'm more of a small town guy but do pay attention to the bigger schools. |

Close enough to Thursday to roll out the picks. Some really good games this week to get out and see. I bet there is one near you. Ok, here's sj's fearless picks....
Amarillo Sandies - Lubbock Coronado…This should be a very good game. It may prove pivotal in the final district rankings. Harris Poll sezs Coronado…sj sezs Sandies.
Lubbock Monterey - Tascosa…I have been fortunate to know the coach at Monterey longer than he cares to admit. He always has his troops ready for the district war. Monterey by two touches.
Hereford - Canyon…This should be another dandy. May be a scorefest. I will take Hereford.
Estacado - Pampa…Estacado is supposed to have one of their better teams. Pampa was untested last week. Big boys favor Pampa. I dunno, I think Estacado may find something. Estacado in a close one.
Plainview - Randall…Dogs and Raiders….another interesting game. I think the final horn will have Randall in front.
Frenship - Dumas…I could tell you stories about the Frenship coaches that wouldn't interest you at all….so I won't….I will tell you they are compassionate….They will need to be….Frenship by whatever they want.
Bushland - Perryton…Could be the best game north of Adobe Walls. Perryton pulled off an OT upset last week to show fight. Bushland beat a good Lubbock Cooper team. I'd pay my $3 to sit on the fifty yard line. Another close game with Bushland figuring out how to win it.
Levelland - Idalou…Idalou is loaded….Levelland isn't….maybe Levelland should schedule Smyer. Idalou by several.
Snyder - Lubbock Cooper…Last week Lubbock Cooper turned the ball over like 7 times against Bushland and lost 7-27. Against Snyder, they may not get the ball 7 times. I don't know where Snyder gets the players year after year but will sink the Pirates.
Panhandle - White Deer…years past this was one of the grudge matches of the Panhandle. First time these two teams have played in quite some time. Both have good teams. If anybody knows what the word donnybrook means, we are going to have one…..Panthers score on a long pass play to ride the bus home 13 miles with the W.
Sunray - Sanford Fritch…State ranked Sunray fresh off of a 42-41 thriller over th' Naz visits the Eagles of Fritch. The Eagles will be no push over but I think Coach Wood has Sunray moving in the right direction that they can turn another W.
Iowa Park - Childress… Iowa Park, a 3A, has been a thorn in the Bobcats' side for years. It won't be easy, but I pick the Bobcats or rebound and beat the IP Eagles.
Canadian - Abernathy…Abernathy may have seen a lot of things but they have never seen anything like the Canadian Wildcats. The 200+ miles home will be happy for the Wildcats.
Portales - Muleshoe…don't know a thing about Poor-talis……Muleshoe duz…..Mules win another
Stratford - Sundown…Boy O' Boy…..Get on down to Kimbrough Saturday afternoon. This could be something special, especially this early in the season. Two state ranked 1A powerhouses that like to line up kick a$$. Wow….these guys may see each other again somewhere down the road. I gotta go with Eddie Metcalf & Company….Stratford. I would not want to guess the score.
Anton - Ralls…football aficionado pick of the week. Only those who care would have a clue. Jackrabbits will win it. How many know which one that is?

I'm probably going to go watch Sunray/ Fritch and if things work out, I'm sure going to head to Canyon to watch Stratford and Sundown. This may be quite a ballgame.
